I was originally going to order just a middle pickup that was badly needed for my MIM '95 Strat Special because i accidentally ruined it from the pickguard swap from black to white then I decided to get the preloaded pickguard assembly which actually cost less than one single pickup! When i open the package and unwrapped it and saw that they were Golden Age pickups w/Alpha 5-way switch & 250K pots, i was anxious as a child at Xmas time. 2 pickguard holes barely lined up and the rest didn't line up at all so I loaded them in the white pickguard and dropped it in the body, screwed it down w/six screws, made the minor adjustments and I was ready to go; I love my Strat even more thanks to that famous quack on 2 Strats are known for! I give it 4 out of 5 stars despite the pickguard issue. FF to 10/2020: these pickups are now loaded in my Squier Bullet Strat HT and their DC resistances are equivalent to Fender pre-'64 and Tex-Mex PU's in the 6.3K-6.5K range and I am very impressed by em... especially two years later!

Great review, I give it 4/5 stars largely because of my disappointment that you didn't say "DAAA BULLS" or talk about the polish you ate for lunch ;)

I've had four guys play my refurbished Strat and all of them love the sound, all have gone to the Stewmac pickup setup.

I don't know if you are still taking questions on this video. I am curious if there were capacitors on the old set up tone pots and what sizes they were if they were there at all. I'm wondering how much of the tone change came from the pick ups and how much from the capacitors. Thanks.

Just ordered the hot, and the middle and bridge from stews. Fully restoring a 93' Hohner Revolution RTS. The guitar body was smashed in 4 pieces so i had to put that together, finished the sanding of the old paint off it, and got it glued back togehter, waiting on some re ranch products to oil fill in the grain, sand spray, then prime. Waiting to find out if they'll get some candy apple red, if not it's going to be daphne red like old 1958 strats. Got 3 emerson cts and a emerson paper and oil on the pots with vintage cloth wire going to them. I think in the end i'm going to have a beast mode strat type guitar even though i favor les pauls more.

Thanx for the review. I got a stripped down strat-copy (Hondo) that I am in the process of rebuilding. I'm looking at Stew-Mac as I write this...

A soldering gun will demagnetize your pickups. Don't never use one around a guitar.

so how do you solder? hahah

@@pgman5416 use a soldering iron / pencil instead. Soldering guns use a transformer that can affect the pickups.

Please normalize your volume levels and stop fading audio to the right only. It's fuckin with my ears!

It really doesn't sound very good, due to the fact you have the bridge on backwards and the strings over the top of the back of the bridge. I know this is 4 years old but you should change that it would sound much better.
