Stick Dulcimer Making Season 2
From the 22nd of January 2010 I plan to be releasing an episode every day until the series is complete, sorry for long Hiatus!
I have had to break down the neck making into 4 parts as each section needed to be clear. The plans show a dovetail join and allude to the one piece neck/block) so I have focused on making that clearer in the video. The dovetail method is more tricky and I stopped using it about 3 years ago in favour of this method shown.

Please note that I have had to work with no dust extraction on in order to film, plus I have had to remove clamps to get a clear shot as well as raise the bandsaw blade higher. I also don;t recommend working with a camera between you and your work!! It takes 10 times longer :)

This series was intended for minimal tooling up originally, the only power tool that was essential was the Bench Drill. In my workshop I have a router table and a woodrat , the woodrat does rebates easily, but demonstrating using this would be of little use and might encourage people to try doing it with a router freehand. The episode tomorrow shows the very easy process of rebating with the bench drill that is so quick you will be impressed! its safer and so much quiter than a router.....

@jeppestrale That is another alternative, I've not done that on a Stick Dulcimer yet! Its harder to do than planing or sanding flush and adding a separate heel cap, but doable.

Woodrat... must ... have ... woodrat. I don't know what one is, but it sounds like something I can't live without. I am absolutely enjoying the heck out of these vids. If I ever say "I'd do that differently" please forgive me. I'll give your vids 5 out of 5. Watching them on this version of KZbin gets a 0, unless I can give negative numbers. If I pause ans switch windows, vid won't restart. If I pause and answer the phone, vid runs sound only. Aaaargh! I'd send you 12 quid for this on DVD.

@ImperialistRunningDo The dvd-rom I supply has as the videos for off-line viewing on a pc and an edited 2 hour version of the 4 or 5 hours of the course. I chose a dvd-rom rather than dvd because of regional issues with discs.

Hey, Michael. It seems that a lot of the neck shaping could be done with a properly set up router table. Do you think this would work?
