The plans for this instrument have the fretting distances listed but if you are making your own design from scratch there are free to download fretting programs(google Mountain Dulcimer Fret Calculator, for example) that calculate the diatonic fret sizes for you. I am just using a guitar scale length, some people use shorter or longer scale lengths, mine is better for accompaniment I think, like a demi irish bouzouki!!

@gtotheummi The scale length is a normal guitar one, 25.5" The DVD/or downloadable plans have all the information, but to work it out yourself just visit the stick dulcimers forum website, they have had that discussion recently and have a program to help you!
