Spoken like a typical welder (at the beginning). Actually, it is the radiographer's responsibility to mark the repairs. The welding inspector should be present and review the repair progress especially that the indication has been completely removed. Another item is to look at the WPS and see if there is a minimum repair length. For example, the radiograph may state that there is an area 1/2" long with excess porosity and the WPS may state that the minimum repair length is 1". Another item that I recommend is that after the weld is repaired is to mark the start and stop of the repair for radiographer. The reason for doing this is for good communication and it also allows the radiographer to put his source directly opposite the repair area. Great Video!

Pancake helmet. Has "goggles" around eyes that blocks light from back and side. Has side shield to block sparks from welder on other side of pipe. More open so it isn't as hot as the sugar scoop hood. Very common for pipe line welders.
@ypaulbrown
@ypaulbrown Жыл бұрын
Pancakes are also very light weight, and a pipe weldor welds for a long time without stopping, so the strap holding it on is not a problem.... as far as a lens, many pipe weldors use an autodarkeng lens......another thing not mentioned, is in cold damp weather, your breath does not fog up the lens because it is sealed from your nose......I hope this helps.....Paulie Brown

They are called pancake welding hoods, best in the business, especially for welding outside with the sun at your back, it is basically a goggle with a face shield

Not every application is air arc or oxy friendly but if there's already welding going on grinding is likely approved as well. I agree with the lab comment as well. 😅

That first guy is almost every welder I have met under 40. Not saying it is all but it is a good percentage. He just forgot to say something about golden arms..😂😂 I call it welders mentality. It is what caused me to start my own mobile welding business so I didn't have to deal with it anymore.

7018 is not used on an open root because of lack of shielding gas on the back side [low hydrogen rods and Rutile] are more protected by the slag....and they do not have the penetration of a cellulose xx10 or xx11 rod needed for root penetration.....hope this helps, Paulie from weld.com

7018 roots are common in Europe and here in eastern Canada cwb t class structural test is 7018 root. It's also done here on pressure piping in our refinery. Passes x ray visual and UT fine.

the word "utilize" is not a substitute for "use." One uses "utilize" when the use being discussed is Off-Label. If the use under discussion is not off-label then it is ignorant to use the word utilize.

Thick welds usually indicate underlying issues if you ask me. If one needs to lay it thick, means he didn't do very well in the beginning.
