So nice. I love sticklebacks. So graceful in their movements. Like military helicopters or damselflies or hummingbirds, they can just hover in one spot and suddenly dart away. There used to be a nice pond at the end of the road I lived at. They did some excavations there, large hole in the ground got filled with the water from nearby river thus creating a pond and they left it like that for couple years for some reason. The pond soon was full of wildlife; sticklebacks, tadpoles, frogs, toads, pond snails, ramshorns, insects, duckweed, the lot. I was a kid then and I spent a couple of summers playing around this place, observing pond life, collecting samples, paddling, wading, making fleets of little boats, anything that little boys do. Finally it got drained and backfilled. It's a parking lot now.

I love ponds! I wish I had your environment. I have Peter Gabriel lyric stuck in my head whenever I see that fish's name. Carpet Crawlers, ...and the tickler takes his tickle back...

Hi very easy to breed I just leave them to it i'v got loads of fry just hatched this weekend, the male looks after them for about 2 weeks then there on there own. I think it's best to keep the males to a minimum, I have 3 males I give the rest away as they will fight, I will put another video on of the fry hope this answers you question on how to breed. If any one lives nr Scarborough and would like some just let me know.

I have sticklebacks in my pond - they are endlessly interesting - I love em. I also have a pair of water shrews. Currently (16th April 2012) I have some huge females (I used to think they were male cos they were so big - but they havent changed colour yet - so they must be females) when does the male mating colour show? Does anyone have info on water shrews eating sticklebacks (I know they can - but am hoping my sticklebacks are too big).
