Stickney, IL Thunderbolt 1003 Alert

Defiance Thunderbolt #4 wanna be? Anyways yeah got so nervous when it does that in the beginning but was so relieved when it came to life. No I have no idea about the Model 2 or if its gonna stay or go. Looks to have been disconnected. Located a few miles away from the Midway 1000 as well which is still up

I lived in central stickney for the first 15 years of my life. I believe this thunderbolt siren was installed when they built the fire station in the early 70s. The smaller siren is a model 2T I believe. I've only heard that siren go off once or twice. I believe that was ran by a generator, And they would sound it during an electrical outage for a tornado warning. The thunderbolt was mainly used not just for tornado warnings, but fire and EMS calls using the high low tone. They stopped using that for fire/email calls when the station went to full-time in the early 2000's. About the same time, the siren horn and solenoid's were removed and refurbished. In the late 1990s, one of the solenoids didn't work properly, so they used to sound the siren in hi lo attack mode for fire calls. It was also briefly used in the late 90s at 10 PM for a curfew siren. This is an awesome video by the way. Reminds me of the old days. They would only test the siren once a year after they stopped using it for fire calls, but now they must be testing it every month along with the sirens from Chicago. As far as the midway airport thunderbolt 1000, I have never heard that go off. I don't think that thing has even moved in the last 25 years.

Where is this fire department located? The only one I can find is on the south side of Stickney near the water reclamation plant, and that looks to be a new steel building.
