Sticky Scrolling (sticky sidebar) in Elementor (PRO)

Sticky Sidebar, Stay in the Column, Synchronized Scrolling, or something in between? Anyhow, extremely easy to be done trick in Elementor (PRO) by using only two simple CSS rules. It’s meant to work with at least two columns side by side, in a way that the column with the greater amount of content starts to scroll sooner, while the shorter one remains sticky until their bottom lines meet. And once that happens, the sticky column starts scrolling along with the bigger one.

I just want to preface this comment by saying this video saved my life before in the past, and steroids for elementor is a must. However, with the most recent update to elementor pro, the CSS code doesnt work and what you must do instead is ( watch this video ) and set up your columns to have inner sections… then when you follow Oooh Bois guidelines for setting up the sections. You will go to the column;inner section that you would like to be made sticky and simply have it stick to the top. THEN, you must select the option to have it stay in the colum. If you do this, then it will have the same effects as the results of this video.. but the code and this glitch the page out.

By my humble opinion, the concept of stickyness in Elementor is completely wrong. It's OK to have the outermost wrapper sticky and overlap the rest of the content but any other sticky child element should stay in the column.

Thanks! Offset top can be set by using the Top Padding of the Section. At least that's what I do when some space atop is needed.

Hi there! I'm afraid the code does not work for me. Position: "sticky" is not being identified. I followed all the steps mentioned in the tutorial. I have also tried enabling Sticky option in 'Steroids for Elementor' and it still does not work. I use the Hello theme and tested this on both the latest Chrome and Firefox browser. You can do the same with or without Steroids. This tutorial teaches you it work with the custom CSS code, while Steroids provide a simple interface for that purpose.

Hello. My left column isn't sticky. Instead of an image, I have a column with a background, an inner section with a heading inside of it. I've doubled check the class names are correct, including the css code. I'm not sure if this matters, but my right column follow the tutorial you have on overlapping textbox on images. Could you please try to download the file again? Maybe it was only temporarily. As for the CSS... You didn't mention which WordPress theme you use, and I strongly recommend "Hello Elementor". Please try to switch themes for a moment in order to be sure that your currently active theme is not a troublemaker.

@@gaetano2608 I was able to get the CSS that he provided in the video to work just fine on multiple websites (updated with the newest versions of Elementor pro & Wordpress). I wasn't able to figure out the breaking bad extension though. There's one unique site I'm having trouble with. Everything was working fine & then it just randomly broke. So I've been trying to troubleshoot. Not sure if anyone else has encountered this situation. Also, Elementor has a stay in the column option for sticky inner-sections built in now. Maybe you'll have better luck getting it to work than I have, haha. Please let me know if you're able to figure out that breaking bad sticky add-on. Thanks!

They have something that is called "Optimized DOM Output", see under Elementor's Experiments tab (WP Admin). Try to disable to see if it helps. But in general, I advise you to try out my plugin "Steroids for Elementor" (it's free, just ask Google). One of its extensions is named "Breaking Bad", and there's an option that allows you to make any Inner Section sticky (and stay in the Column). No Elementor PRO needed.

PopUp might be the reason. "Steroids for Elementor" (my own plugin, just ask Google about) include one great extension named "Breaking Bad". One of the options allows you to make the Inner Section widget stay-in-column or sticky. It's basically identical to what's been done in this tutorial. No Elementor PRO is needed.

Ocean WP theme is not that Elementor friendly. It is Elementor friendly as any other WP theme out there. You can try to use "Hello Elementor" or simply install "Steroids for Elementor" add-on (I've made it a while ago, it's free), and use one of its extensions named "Breaking Bad" to make any Inner Section sticky and stay-in-the-column.

But as soon as I add the sticky function to the footer of the page (you know like that the footer is sticky to the bottom and appears below the last section) the sticky scrolling stops working. The only thing I can think of is the clash of class names. Why else would that sticky scrolling rules interfere with the sticky footer unless identical class name is used? It doesn't make any sense.

Same case popped up a few days ago (@Eduard Petcu). I immediately made a test (imgur.com/a/B9tNOOK) and he said that Kadence theme caused the problem because as soon as he switched to "Hello Elementor" the problem is gone.

Hi! Very promising solution and very good explanation! unfortunaly it doesn't work yet. Elementor (I've got the pro version) does not accept the "sticky" as a value for position. The message says that it was something expected like fixed, relative, inherit and so on but not sticky. what can I do?

Sorry to hear that it doesn't work for you! But trust me, I didn't hack my Elementor PRO in order to be able to create this tutorial. And the weirdest of all is the fact that you are the only person facing that particular problem. I can't tell for sure but somehow I think this is not Elementor related problem but rather the Browser. Be sure it's up to date and try to use Firefox. It's the most advanced one and not that buggy...

Anybody know why when a section I've built in a landing page in Elementor looks great in the builder, but shows up without any styling in the live version of the site? I add a section with a colored background, a header text widget, and a button widget. Button is styled. Text is white on a blue colored background. In the live sight, no colored background shows, text shows up as black, and button is plain gray and not styled at all. All of it looks great in the builder. Help, Please!

I would suggest taking a look at your theme's styling settings. Sometimes they tend to override the settings in Elementor, and the other way around.

Hi. Thanks so much for making this video, it's easy to follow for a noobie like meself. However, it just won't work for me, right from adding the CSS in the global settings, it kept on showing error indicators on pretty much every line, even though they were exactly like you wrote them. I built my blog over Astra theme, and had to switch among multiple themes to test and even tried Hello Elementor theme too (I noticed you suggested that to somebody in the comments - thanks for suggesting it, it actually holds my elementor builds like it is, except for the fonts). I think that you should get rid of the WP hosting first. If anyhow possible, install the XAMPP or MAMP and do the localhost development. Once you're ready migrate everything to the "normal" hosting environment hence WP hosting is crippled. A lot. It sux unbelievably.

I just worked out that when the gsap libraries are active, chrome must appear as Firefox or whatever the first line of css code is for, therefore stopping it working. If I disable the libraries it works fine.

Actually it's the Locomotive scroll library. I wondered if there is a workaround or to only load the javascript library on a page by page option.

Unfortunately there's no conditional load of any available library. What would you gain by that? If you load it once, every next time it'll be pulled from the buffer so no harm for the page load time.

Do you use "Hello Elementor" or some other WP theme? As I recall, people say it doesn't work with OceanWP. Anyhow, sticky Inner Section is now part of the "Steroids for Elementor" add-on, you can find that option under the "Breaking Bad" extension. Give it a shot and see if it helps.

By the way, I can't figure out in what way Default and Canvas may affect the CSS code that has been attached to the page. Did you try to purge Elementor's cache? I mean the one that relates to the CSS. Try to go to WP Admin, Elementor > Tools > General (tab) : Regenerate CSS I've noticed that Elementor has a nasty habit of caching and creating transients (the most likely to speed all up) that quite often get stuck for God knows what reason, and if that happens - no way to Regenerate a damn shit.

@@thegamingduo520 You have to import the json file into Elementor and will show the training template. Wordpress dashboard -> Template (under Elementor) -> Theme builder -> Import json file. Hope this helps :)

By the default - you can't. But Elementor enqueues Waypoints ( imakewebthings.com/waypoints/ ) library with every page/template so it should not be hard at all to add some JS code to the HTML widget and make things work.

You can install the plugin if you want to be able to have a better control over the columns layout and also add many more extra options to Elementor's default widgets. But, in general, the Sticky Scrolling will work without Steroids.
