Last time I used this saw I noticed that not enough oil was reaching the bar and chain. Let's see if we can diagnose the issue and fix it.

Absolutely brilliant video. Really clear, well paced, thorough and a lovely amiable approach. To do it in such a way with English as a second language just puts many English speakers to shame. It is good to see an obvious expert with machinery make the odd mistake and admit to this. Everyone gets things wrong from time to time and it is reassuring for complete novices like me (I had written down the order of everything I took out to do with the clutch and just assumed this chainsaw didn't have the washer that Duck Flynn refers to - mine is an Stihl MS180C). I work in countryside management and do a little very basic routine maintenance of machinery and I am not a mechanic. This is the first time I have taken an engine apart (apart from the very basic stuff I did as part of my chainsaw training in the UK). It took me 2 (7 hour) days as I destroyed the top anti-vibration buffer by trying to take it out the wrong way and had to replace it. I really struggled with pushing in the 1st plug for the oil hose and with pulling out the oil pick-up and hose into the chain oil tank to make sure there was no kink. But I completed the job and the chain is now oiling again. I would never have attempted doing this without such a high quality video. Thank you from the UK for doing this in English.

Smart move to replace all those bits while you are already that far into taking it apart. I've seen too many frugal scooterists tear engines apart multiple times to replace a $3 seal that could have been replaced the first time around. Cheers!

When installing an oil line into the oil resivoir, I use a wooden popsicle stick that pushes without tearing the rubber line. A tip from an old timer, my Grandfather.

Thanks Claus, excellent tutorial. I’ve been trying to get my Stihl 018 to oil for a year. 2 new oil pumps, new worm gear, 2 new oil pick up pipes and still no oiling of the chain!!! Did I think about kinking….no! Thanks for showing that you had the same issue, I’ll be fishing this afternoon to get the oil pipe and filter in the correct position.Thank you sir.

Thanks Claus. What should be driven home to chainsaw owners is this is why labor hours and thus costs are so high. They are easy to repair - it just takes time to do it procedurally correct.

Great video, thank you...I think you missed installing the large washer that sits on top of the plastic oil pump drive just under the clutch...Thanks again...P/S...I also kinked my oil line and didn't get oil on my first time either, cost me a pump I probably didn't need...lol

Claus, my wee brother from another mother 😁 The timing of this video is absolutely perfect. My sons friend has a Stihl that doesn’t oil, i have to fix it for him. My experience with chainsaws is mainly with Husqvarnas. I have worked on one Stihl an MS180. I now feel confident I can sort out the oiling problem. For my sanity and Cucumber Klems can you stick to our mother tongue please 🥒😁
