Thanks for the video. I'm presently in the middle of trying to bring a 020avp back to life.

I love that saw! It's still working perfectly. It has a place right next to my ported Poulan. I take both when I take saws out.

I can't get the carburetor gas inlet to hook up with the fuel line when I push the parts together.

@@ernst2able it may take a bit of trial and error, and I would try a little lubrication on the rubber. It can take several tries to make sure everything is all lined up. Don't worry you'll get it 👍 I think it may have taken a bit for me to get it right

@@patthesoundguy Thank you for the. encouragement I'll give it a few more tries. This chainsaw has a very special build up that I've never seen before.

@@ernst2able you'll love it when you get it back together, mine is one of the go to saws in my small collection. It runs like it's ported. Ii was going to maybe do some port work on it but it's so good as is, I have left it alone

Great video! I have just restored a 020 avp.. it’s not perfect, but it fires up right away every time! I have one problem that i just can’t seem to fix.. i revs up as normal, but there is no power on the chain.. when i try too saw something the chain stops and refuse to cut.. i have tried to adjust the tension on the chain and adjust the carburator, but nothing changes.. do you have any idea?

Thank you so much for the comment! My saw the springs in the clutch are definitely worn out so the chain likes to move some at idle. For your situation I would disassemble the clutch and make everything is able to move the way it should. The shoes might be gummed up and not able to move outward all the way to properly transmit power to the chain, or the clutch is contaminated with some bar oil causing slippage. You could try washing it down well with brake clean and blowing it out with compressed air. Keep me posted on how you make out 👍

@@95nystuen you probably got your saw fixed by now but I would check the clutch shoes there also might have some worn out springs also check the chain I've seen some older saws that had a 1/4 drive clutch sprocket with a 3/8 bar and chain which can be a problem

video was good except how to put the fuel line in from the carbie. My 020 avp just started
@patthesoundguy Жыл бұрын
The fuel line was pretty easy to snap in to the case if I remember right. The fuel line is like a grommet on one end and the carb has a nipple on it that snaps into it in the case. My 020 is a little ripper. Only bummer is I broke the plastic choke lever about a month ago while I was up in a tree with it, I'm hoping to get one 3D printed.

Can you help with setting the carb screws on this model? Ive recently restored the same saw, yet Im not able to set idle on it. How is the LA screw supposed to be set? what is the base setting for the LA L and H screws? All the way in then back out 1 and 1/4 ?
@patthesoundguy2 жыл бұрын
I'll do my best to get you up and running. Generally the idea is to get a baseline set up to get it to at least start and work from that point. I like to turn screws out at least 1.5 turns from seated. Then I get it to rev up from idle or at least rev up some by getting the low speed jet adjusted. I blip the throttle while leaning it out until it won't rev and then richen it up till it will rev again, or I'll go too rich and back it it to get to reving again. Then I set the idle screw to get it to idle. I then let the saw warm up. Then I go back to the idle speed, As it will change it's needs on warm up. Then I get the low speed jet just right until it revs nice and then lower the idle to get the chain to stop spinning. Then I make sure it still revs up right and adjust the low speed as needed. Then I move on to the high speed jet. I richen the high up until it "four strokes" on wide open which is a nice growl. I then lean it out so that it will four stroke with no load and goes smooth under load. I can make a video showing the process if that helps.

@@patthesoundguy hi, thanks for the swift answer. Video would be very helpful. I just have no idea how to set the LA screw from the start. Do you screw it all the way in or out? Yesterday I managed to get it idle and rev up with good throttle response however it always died on me when I stopped it revving and it slowed down form high and died,... today I managed to completely screw it all, I have to start again, it wont Idle anymore. :D Of course the chain turns no matter what I do,... idle / high, clutch / no clutch
@patthesoundguy2 жыл бұрын
@@Nakamura65 the LA screw just holds the throttle open slightly. The trick is to get it to idle first. Quite often you have to get the low speed mixture right when it's warm to have it both idle and rev up. The low speed screw if for idle and up to about 1/4 throttle sometimes 1/2. To get it to idle low enough you may have to richen the mixture some. My saw the clutch springs seemed to be worn out at first but I just had to run it some and get the low speed jet and idle dialed in better and now it seems just fine for the most part, the chain stays put at idle. That 020AV is my go to saw these days, I love it. It matches my 1983 024AV quite nicely.
