I recently bought an 028WB from a member of OPE forum. It was in pieces in a box....a project he had lost interest in as he was rebuilding lots of other saws. So I bought it cheap. When it arrived at my house...to my surprise and delight...every nut, bolt, and screw was bagged and tagged in zip lock bags! Made building it so much easier. He told me he stopped when he ran a vac test on it and it failed miserably....and that he did discover a torn intake boot. Turns out the boot was the only problem. It had been torn due to a broken top buffer which I replaced along with the boot. Runs perfect now. And thanks to those bags, nothing was missing. I now have a box of those little zip lock bags on my workbench as well.!!! Great video! Thanks!!!

That 028 is a great saw. Stihl sold a million of them for a good reason. I have one that I bought new in 1985 and it “Stihl” works like new. I currently have 7 028 saws. They are trustworthy dependable units for sure.

Daniel Dwyer I have an 028, that I love. I also have a husqvarna, that can’t hold a candle to the 028. My 028 has recently started to bog down, loose power under load, when it gets warmed up. It idles fine, just bogs down under load. I have a new carburetor on the way. Fuel filter looks fine. Any suggestions?? Thanks

A you help me out. I have the exact stihl. My chain brake is like yours. Does your tea In brake work? Every video I have watched had a different type of chain brake except yours is different like mine.

I think the 028 super is one of the best saws Stihl ever made.

I appreciate you restoring one of these saws!!! I currently got one of these exact saws for FREE from a neighbor! He also gave me a STIHL leafblower! He gave them to me as a fix challenge, and that if i can get them running, i can HAVE THEM! All that the leafblower needed was just a simple carb air/fuel screw adjust, and the saw just needed a carb air/fuel screw adjust, and needed one of the kill switch wires to be resoldered (otherwise the saw wouldn't turn off). Now I got both the blower and saw running. Now I just need to wait until i save up some more money so I can go to my local saw store and buy a genuine replacement STIHL brand bar and chain. I am not gonna go cheapo and buy a crappy off brand chain (like those Oregon pieces of shit you find at menards that last for only like 15 minutes of cutting at most). I just can't believe that I as a 17 year old already own a STIHL chainsaw entirely to MYSELF! My stepdad's saw he owns for himself is a craftsman 18 inch. Lately, we have been getting those shit Oregon chains, and we keep sharpening them every maybe like 40 cuts (small pieces that are 10 inches diameter at the largest). But now we are also gonna get high quality chains for the craftsman too from our local saw store.

I'm one of those people who are lucky. I toss all my screws in magnetic bins and am usually lucky, then again I'm stringent on getting things back together quick and if I don't then it's into the maxwell coffee bins.

Ok... Thought it was bigger saw than that.

Stihl built the 028 WB saw for two years, 1979 & 1980. Saws built in 1979 have a seven digit serial number. Saws built in 1980 have a nine digit serial number.
