You won't believe what killed this blower! Can we make it run again? 2003 Stihl BR420 Magnum backpack blower that wont start. Bad Fuel? Spark? Compression? Pull rope?

Nice video! And that’s a great little blower! I’ve got the exact same one except mines a 2005 model, and I got it for free back in October last year. It’s not beat up or abused it still runs great for 17 years old, and I recently cleaned it up and it looks like brand new lol.👍😉

I was surprised by the power...it will blow you back!
@wikeddf2 жыл бұрын
@@turningwrenches9524 lol it’s got decent power for it. 518cfm at the tube and 172mph air speed. Not bad for a old blower.😉

A friendly Tip. Whenever you have a spark arrest that is severely clogged like that was is, You should always pull the muffler as well because there could also be clogging at the exhaust hole in the cylinder.

Thanks for the tip! I will try that.

Seems like it’s still awfully tight. Crank bearings? Is it tight with the plug out?
@turningwrenches95249 ай бұрын
Once I got the spark arrestor unplugged, the tightness relieved right up, and it fired up. I gave it back to my friend and he is still using it.

Even if i cleaned mines muffler it still wouldn't have spark i cleaned off both the black wires that hook up to the coil they were full of dirt and black grease But the blower quit having spark with the old coil on it and still doesn't have any spark with the new coil so it has to be the flywheel went bad

I might stop buying that old crap off my friend because im getting tired of fixing all his broken stuff he doesn't take care of i had to replace the pull starter because a plastic piece in it cracked an broke off so just putting new cord on wouldn't have fix that problem so i replaced that if im able to it needs a new muffler and spark arrestor put in it and I've replaced the coil now the flywheel will get replaced soon and I've replaced the carburetor and the gas filter the thing was so neglected and dirty it was just almost ready for a dumpster but i used it up until it quit wanting to start up and have spark I'll probably finish an fix it and then sale it to get my money back from it i like battery and electric leaf blowers anyway

My used br420 thats old and well abused just started to not have any spark it all even after replacing the coil i don't think thats what the problem of it was on mine i think its a burnt out flywheel plus the carburetor gets flooded with gas with the choke on off and with it on on so the needle in it needs adjusted to but its acting like its not got any spark it all And mine didn't have a spark arrestor on it and the muffler is so far rusted out i can't unscrew it to take it off only way i could clean the inside out is spray air into it with it stuck on the blower or dump some gas or water or something into it to clean it out so mines muffler ain't gonna come off unless it gets cut off

@@turningwrenches9524 but the small things the guy should have done was blew it off with a air compressor once in awhile just to keep stuff from building up Im gonna go ahead and put a new flywheel on it and then im done with it after that i checked the wiring on the coil and the on off switch they're all good I've tried unhooking the black wires on the coil and start it and it still has no spark the coil end of the spark plug wire is good i checked that so i think the flywheel is burnt
@turningwrenches9524 Жыл бұрын
@@Mike-su8si if the coil and spark plug are good, and you have removed the kill wire and you still don’t have spark, I would think they Flywheel or a bad ground point.
