Yep The collar is like a Hudson Bay head and those wiggle fast. When you showed the head profile it looked like it was a bit crooked. Good review Tac Salute 🍻🍻

Nice review, Tac. I like that the handle seems to be a bit longer than the average hatchet. I have just about decided that, for me, standard hatchets are pretty much useless. I don't heat with wood at home so my use for wood processing at home is for outdoor cooking (I set up a 'pioneer kitchen' in my yard) and for my smoker. Then there is processing wood when camping. I know some folks will pop an aneurysm when I say this but for splitting smaller stuff (true hatchet size) I would rather baton with a really stout, large knife that is heavy duty enough to handle it. For middle sized stuff I'd rather use a tomahawk like my Woods Chogan and for larger stuff I want a wedge and maul. I have been thinking about a 'boy's axe' sized axe to work interchangeably with the 'hawk but your review has me considering this Stihl, instead, as it would be longer (and looks to be more capable) than a standard hatchet but still probably short enough to carry as a belt axe.

Stihl axes are made by Iltis, (well the wooden handled ones are) they are Rheinland pattern, my guess is something like the OX 235 rebranded in this case. Great axes.

Did notice some wiggle on that last chop and when you tried to pull it. It’s possible it could break or pop out. But still, that’s the nature of the Tac test! Lol. Cannot wait till next time.

I got one of these axes a couple of years ago when I bought a stihl chainsaw and they give it to me for buying the saw , but I could not stand the handle had to strip it down and make the handle smaller and put a good edge on it , and I liked it it felt good but after a few day’s using it to pound wedges the head loosed up tried to tighten it back up but after pounding a few wedges it came back loose , it just sits in the corner now

It’s worth the 30$ over a 15$ cheap one especially if you go camping pretty regularly or just go on hikes it’s not to heavy but heavy enough to split wood easy compared to a cheap one

Take an hour to put a passable mirror polish to that blade, 20 min to strip the handle, I hate that shit they coat it with also, take an hour to burn a nice simple pattern, an hour to carve some checkering towards the butt of the handle and to finish it off use a stain mix of ebony black and Brazilian rose wood stains when dry rub in some raw linseed oil
