Dunno if you can give me a clue what's wrong with my 290 Stihl ever since I put a new carb on it (online, aftermarket). The adjustment screws seem to not hold their positions. I get it running fine after agonizing adjustments on all three screws, but then after just a few minutes in the woods it loses power, dies, sometimes. I can adjust the screws again and get it running better, but it'll do the same damned thing again. There is a rubber grommet thing that I think is supposed to hold the screws from turning, but I'm not sure it's making proper contact with the heads of the screws. Did they sell me the wrong carburetor, you think? Or do those rubber grommet hold-downs wear out (it looks to me like it's about an eighth of an inch short, but it's hard to tell. Any easy fixes? Halp!
