I own 5 chainsaws, two blowers, two Kombi units, and just purchased the FS94R. I have NEVER had to use the warranty on any of my Stihl equipment.

I also have both units and find the fs131 also uses less fuel that the fs240 because you don't need to rev it as high to get the same power output. The power on the fs131 is instant.

I reviewed this video today. Then went to the local dealer and spoke to them about the 240 and the 131. The dealer said, performance wise you're not going to see much difference, so they don't even stock the FS-240 anymore, and many commercial customers are going for the 4 stroke on their replacement machines. So walked out with the FS-131R. I bought a gallon of the motomix fuel, and they doubled my warranty to 4 years.

I had the 130 for about 5 years and just got the fs 240. Looking forward to getting the 131 too. Because the 130 was awesome. Just recently I was getting crazy thick stuff but the 130 was plenty of power for most jobs.

This was definitely one of, if not the most comprehensive, and surprisingly concise, 10-mins of side-by-side product comparison I’ve seen on KZbin. And, frankly, that’s all I could take. As I write this I’m looking at the last comment (1yr old) that reads “…I love the energy….” Tony Robbins has energy. John McEnroe has energy. Strength & Conditioning Coaches have “energy.” Within the 1st 3-mins I was distracted by side thoughts of what it must be like to lean against concert speakers playing presidential nominee Dean Smith’s shrieking or H.R. Longer pole makes sense in a wide open field but in an area with shrubs or trees the shorter pole makes it much easier to maneuver and cut.

I bought an FS131 as a back-up for our FS250s and Shindaiwa T270s (my guys are smaller stature, from Guatemala and don't like the heavy and long trimmers). The 131 surprised me with it's power. A little hard to get used to hearing the 4-stroke engine noise which SOUNDS like it is going 1/2 speed but actually isn't as you know. Me? I'll stick with the Stihl FS250 with .130" line for these hills in Southern Calif. If that isn't enough, I put a "brush knife" on a 250 and that is that! -BA Oh, the 240 is definitely too heavy. Next year calif will outlaw the sale of gas trimmers I hear. Electric only!

I have the 240. Going for the kombi 131 for the accessories. It will be banned but people have to snitch to get ticketed. And it will hold it's value if not go up on the used market which would get me the battery version if needed.

Nice review. I had the KM 131R and put 300 hours on it in a year and a half before one of the bolts holding on the carb sheared off and got stuck in the engine head. I tried to extract it but failed and damaged the head it was a last ditch effort anyway. Getting these machines repaired typically costs too much anyway. After 300 hours of hard use on jobs I got all my moneys worth. I recently got an FS 240 bike and excited to run it and start using a harness type rig. I would buy another 131 any day of the week too. 300 hours full throttle and hundreds of tanks or gas before it took a dump. No other issues.

I have some bushes, saplings and crazy thick weeds to jam through. But I will be trimming around the tulips most of all. I am going to cut like you and see what my neighbors think. Haha.

Do you have a preference over the 240 or 131? I'm debating between the two and can't figure out which one would be best based on price and performance. 131 seems more economical but I don't mind spending the difference if the 240 is preferred.

I was so motivated by Matt video that when I brought my Stihl FS 240, I felt so overpowered that I started cutting 6 foot high grass. By the second day of usage I had to take Trimmer to my Stihl dealer since I broke it from heavy abuse.

It's good to break in a new engine at no more than half throttle for at least eight tanks of fuel. Myself I normally run them easier for about half a year keeping my string at full length. When you run a brand new engine full throttle it will destroy the cylinder and piston due to extreme heat and very tight piston and cylinder contact. I am a small engine repair guy and have seen alot of new equipment absolutely destroyed by wide open throttle when brand new. Break them in easy and like my old FS-250R they will last twenty plus years and keep on going.

Would take my twenty year old mean old dog FS-250R over the 4 mix any day of the week all day long. It bows down to nothing. It levels everything up to four and a half inches in diameter with the blade and with string anything green up to thistle. I have cleared six foot tall overgrowth and brush with no problems. Only down side is it's kinda heavy.

They were cheap 2 years ago I lost my 240r in a devoice I now I got the 131r 😭 I still don't think it's a 4 stroke tho cause of the mixing of the oil I seen real 4 strokes wackers. 😂 I noticed a big difference in the 2 but could afford the 240r they more then doubled in price!

I demoed the fs131r for a day and generally I hated it, ergonomics were good, seemed to be well built, had some torque. The throttle control was ridiculously sensitive and incapable of modulation. I did some test plots and timed it against my echo 2620T thinking it would be a huge improvement. Nope, most of the time the two would tie, or with the echo slightly behind and echo's torque head seemed to proved plenty of wet weed/grass cutting power. Anyway, I didn't keep it, I decided on a shindaiwa t302x, and it blows the stihl out of the water on torque. The only thing I dislike about it compared to the stihl is the loud/high RPMS and engine housing is the opposite of compact/slick. But this isn't a one handed under a pine tree type trimmer so resting my arm all over it isn't as much of a concern.

Echo sucks, don’t try to con me with Echo story! Echo is Garbage from the dump, that trimmer is embarrassing! Sold exclusively at Lowes Discount Mega Store. Guess where I have to bring it when it breaks? Lowes! Then I’m dealing with customer service and the store manager telling them how only after 2 months this piece of junk broke. They try to shift the blame that I misused it.etc, etc, or I could buy a STIHL……….STIHL for Life. Write your Echo Trimmer love story on the bathroom stall at Lowes.

@@DiscoveringHisWay It must be embarrassing to have a trimmer from "lowes" outcompete your $500 4mix trimmer that has such a poor reputation stihl stopped advertising it as such. I ran 3 tanks through that demo and it was such a let down compared to echo's high torque trimmer with 1/2 hp less power. Lets not get into how awful stihls trimmer heads are either... In case you were wondering the demo had an echo speedfeed head on it, because even stihl stealerships know how bad their products are.

Had a weird dream after watching this video where I went to Stihl academy and Matt was the Grand Master, he trained us to use the force of the Stihl Trimmer! and discover our Way to be a Real Man! Then we fought the Dark Lord which was basically an 8 foot tall grass with a black cap on it! that would send serpents at us and we chopped those snakeheads and cut down the grass minions, then Matt finally faced the Dark Grass Master and had no chance Matt cut it off with minimal effort and showed the Stihl trimmer superiority to the Galaxy!
