I did the same setup on my 311 but to save the powerhead sprocket as well as the bar sprocket I add molyslip (MOS2) which is great for ultra heavy load/friction. Note that you can't simply add the molyslip to the oil tank. I add 50ml to 3.78L of light Stihl barchan oil. The bar chain guides and all the sprockets look brand new after 5 years and dozens of bush quarts.

I got muffer mod bigger carb and jet plastic clamshell saw pulling so hard it was melting plastic, but I run 32/1 fuel rich so it won't rev, but it sings in the cut under load and won't bog in post Oak.

Wish Sthil bars had a grease port on the tip to help keep the sprocket cooler.

Idk,I've never had one fail. I'm not a logger,but cut 8 cords of firewood a year. I've got a couple bars goin on 10 years old. Dress them and flip em every few outings and keep your oil flowing good.

You’ll burn that plastic saw up if you continue doing this. Definitely doesn’t oil anywhere near what’s acceptable. Guarantee your cylinder temps are approaching 500 degrees during long cuts. Bad business there.

Yes and no. I used one on my Alaskan mill for 4 years before I stepped up to an ms441c. It did run pretty darn cutting 8 ft long oak slabs,but it held up ok.i still cut firewood with it occasionally and while I was rebuilding my husqvarna 550xp I checked the compression unit just because I had my gauge out and handy. It still has 150psi of compression and its 10 years old or more now.

This is the chainsaw equivalent of putting super swampers on a camaro. The video would have been 10 min or less with a 20” bar.

LOL- that visual is hilarious.. I run a 20 inch bar on my MS311 and it cuts fast and efficient.. I'm no expert, but I'd be afraid of cooking a piston with a 36 on it- even if it was richened up.

I’m running into a chain lubrication problem. The chain and bar are overheating and seizing up. Took it by to local power shop to see if they could increase the flow rate but that was a no go. Are you experiencing the same problem?

It's now 2 years later. What went first? The clutch or top end? That poor thing is struggling. You should be aroung 9k in the cut, not 4k.

I'm surprised that chain stayed on. The chain getting to hot with the lack oil. That 391 doesn't put out enough oil for that big of bar.

They recommend 20" as probably the ideal size for the ms311 but I bought mine and it came with a 25" bar directly from Stihl and it rips revs high in a cut. 36" seems pretty boggy.

And also with a 25 inch bar you have 50 inches of cutting space
@devinmccloud3 жыл бұрын
There is a reason the max bar size is 20". It works with a 36" bar but you will greatly decrease the life of the motor every time you use it.
@Anonymouso2833 жыл бұрын
The max size bar is a 25 inch. Only time a Stihl will break is bad operation of the user. Use her right, she’ll last forever.
@devinmccloud3 жыл бұрын
You are correct max size is 25". They come standard 20" stock. Stihl is the best chainsaw hands down. You would have to adjust the oil output for a bigger bar. I still would not recommend heavy use over 25".
@Anonymouso2833 жыл бұрын
@@devinmccloud I completely agree. I, currently, own an 11 year old Stihl MS290 (20 inch bar.) Not once has she broke on me. Yeah, for the the huge trees I cut, I have to cut on the other side, but it’s fine. No biggie. I live next to huge trees, and own 15~ acres. Especially water oaks are the ones that fall once a week. Used and abused the shit out of her, and she still runs. I’m just wanting another saw for the fuck of it at this point. Highly thinking of getting the MS311 25 inch. Of course I’d get a Stihl, because I’m a Stihl fanboy. Yeah, people love their Husqvarna’s and Echo’s and shit, but they’re missing out on the Stihl powaaaa! And… Reliability.

That bar is way to big for that saw, you can just see and hear how hard it is struggling to gain the R's and you never even approach hitting the top end because it just to much chain for that little saw to be turning. Yes it may cut but there is a reason they give you max bar lengths for saws, so unless you want to greatly reduce the life of that saw put the 20" bar back on.
@cvmikeray23 жыл бұрын
Not everyday use. I was showing it will make the cut if needed. I have a 500i for the big stuff.

Nice video and great saw but i think that a 20 inch bar will cut faster with less strain on the saw a 36 inch bar on that saw could hurt the engine in due time like put strain on the rod bearing. I have the ms 391 and have found that the 20 inch bar cuts faster in big wood over 30 inches just line up the cuts .But this was a cool video.
