Thanks , I was thinking how to remove the limiters without distorying the adjustment mechanism. Just rebuild a 251 , new cylinder and piston and it runs lean on the high side. The original piston had a hole burned in it because of the lean condition. No crankcase leaks.

Great explanation. Honestly I never realized there was a 2mm allen head in there. I've always drilled them out. Yes, those pins are hardened, and occasionally the bit will drift. Going forward I'll be doing it your way. Much cleaner. Thanks Brennan.

Brennan, Thank you for this valuable information. Your kindness is much appreciated. I aligned each little groove with its corresponding limiting ball as you suggested, marked the center of each ball with an automatic center punch and using a 3/32in drill bit carefully drilled them out. It's difficult to see how the manufacturer gained an advantage by altering the carburetor in this way as the internals were caked with dirt.

Excellent process for making this carb fully adjustable. What would be your suggestion for how many turns out on each adjustment screw to get started with. One turn on each????

I ground a slot through the pin with zip wheel on the one i did. Didnt know about the allen trick.

This method will still make the cap useless i did this to me ms291 and using the screwdriver it will only adjust it clockwise it skips when you try to turn it counterclockwise

I just drilled my ms271 carb plugs out today with a 5/32" bit, it drills easy its just aluminum, i adjusted it better than when i bought it new, my low idle was too lean ...
