The 290 is great on power and extremely reliable every year. Im in Minnesota and this thing sits all winter and starts perfectly every spring if you follow the instructions Robert just explained to us. Thanks for the video.

I have the ms 290 for over 13 years, except some rubber tubes and oil pump all original parts. Working almost everyday with it, and it never let me down!!!!

Cheers. Most of the injuries, per USA 1999 study, were left hand and leg areas. A total of 28,500 injuries in the US, about 15,000 to left hand and legs. We are building this business right from the ground up and safety is good karma and good business. Take it easy and thanks for saying something: took some time to get these together so feedback makes us feel like it was worth it.

I can tell you that chain brake works very well. Had a minor kick back that activated it; never even felt it touch my wrist!

Funny: so have I: I have owned the 029 (predecessor), and now this model. The 029 is a bit tired after 15 years of cutting, but the machine lives on and starts every time. Funny how a Nice Tool lasts and makes you happy in the long run. :) Glad they changed the fuel caps though: Eventually wore the slot for the screwdriver out on the cap out on the 029. Doesn't happen on the new model. German engineered: US made. Nice combo.

Haven't had trouble with it. You have? Cuts out while cutting? Tough time starting? They all die out if you don't let them rev up hard when you start them...I just can't seem to shake the tendency to want to avoid doing this. What saw do you prefer and why?
@robertrhodes2011 жыл бұрын
Yup: rumor is that in the process of making this new version carb compliant, it has more the machine more fussy. Still runs like a banshee when its warmed up... lol.

Big tip I got from the hardware store I bought it from. Use Premium gas. With the ethanol, higher octane is very much needed. Or, if you can find gas without ethanol, that is preferred.
@robertrhodes208 жыл бұрын
You want 92 octane whether it is ethanol or no ethanol for sure. Me? Ethanol is nightmare you want to avoid on all small engines. Period. Still sells 24-30oz cans of fuel now that has stabilizer and no ethanol in it. Seen off brand stabilized ethanol free fuel sold at home depo recently. You can run ethanol fuel and fill it the last time with the ethanol free if you want to pinch a penny but stay away from ethanol for anything that looks like long term storage (3+ months).

Just buy 89+ octane no ethanol fuel and you'll be fine.

great saw I've had it for years and the only thing that went wrong was the oiler that's all and I cut with it every single day never fails. I aslo have a old 50av and it still goes I used it for many years until I got the ms 290 I have a good few stihls and there all a great saw. the best I ever had was a vintage echo and I still have it and cut with it , I have the old echo since time began I never had anything went wrong with it the best saw alive

The old fuel and oil caps were way better.
@robertrhodes2010 жыл бұрын
Why?
@ryanlong366310 жыл бұрын
Because on the old caps the older the rubber is the more you can tighten the cap. On the new caps you twist it and that's it. You can't unjust how tight the cap is, so when the rubber gets old the caps leak
@robertrhodes209 жыл бұрын
I overnighted them so many times, I like the new design ... :)
@blosom23159 жыл бұрын
+Ryan Long the new caps are just to advanced for Americans. They are by far and away better. People just aren't smart enough to figure them out.

been running a saw for 50 years, never wore safety crap, if you feel the saw, and don't act like an idiot. it will more often than not go ok. but by all means, wear your safety clothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
