I’m a diehard Husqvarna guy. I own 7 with the oldest one being 46 years old. Having said that, when someone asks me what saw they should buy to start a firewood business I tell them Echo 590 or 620. For the money you can’t beat the price, quality, and warranty.
@InTheWoodyard4 ай бұрын
Yup, that is very good advice! Thanks!
@DoyleShadduckАй бұрын
The warranty is a moot point since it’s being used commercially ( firewood business). It’s only 1 year commercial vs 5 years residentially used. That’s a massive difference.
@traxxasrcfunАй бұрын
Those echo 590’s are tanks. We are also husky here at the shop but we picked up a used 590 that a buddy was selling and honestly we love it. We accidentally ran it over with the skidder, all it did was break the handle and crack the pull start cover. Saw still worked great but we replaced the handle, which was also super cheap. It’s been an excellent saw and it oils actually better than most of our husky’s
@traxxasrcfunАй бұрын
@@DoyleShadduckunless they are a full blown legit firewood business I doubt it would matter. A good dealer would cover it. Husky’s warranty is only 2 years commercial so half the price, half the warranty for echo

What if the Echo and Husky are roughly the same price? Here in Australia the Echo 621s are $1700-1800, Husky 562xp mkii is $1620 on special, full retail $1770. I have a Shindaiwa saw and brushcutter so I trust the Echo gear but not sure if it's worth jumping ship.

I bought the Stihl 400 about 18 months ago and have been super happy with it using it to fell a few trees on the property and 5+ cords of firewood yearly. My neighbor has the Echo 590 and it feels very similar. Still haven't tried out a husky. The dealer network is what drove my decision.

There will always be pros and cons to each saw brand; it depends on what you are using the saws for and what kind of wood you will primarily cut. Both Husqvarna and Stihl are the most common and have a larger market, but Echo can still hold its own--especially if cost is important. One thing that is very important when looking for a saw(s), is to find out which brand has an authorized reseller and service center in your area--this is an absolutely key factor. For myself, doing firewood up here in central British Columbia, I do it all (felling, limbing, bucking) with my Echo CS-600P and CS-620P. I've also been brushing using my friend's Husky 55 (great saw) for a week clearing 15 hectares of birch, cottonwood, and aspen; this is my first time using a Husky. On the echos, I run a 24" and 27" bar with Oregon Powercut chains--the other key factor with any saw is to make sure the chain is "Sharp"!

Little echo life hack, the 4910 which is actually discontinued now, is almost identical to the 501p and is quite a bit cheaper. Give them extra long warm-up times and try not to hold the throttle in the same position more than a few seconds at a time. Doesn't matter if it is half, 3 quarters, or full throttle. I just don't hold it there very long. Lots of throttle feathering and good long cool downs between tanks. Yet, I see guys run em hard brand new with the either it runs or blows up during warranty mentality and get along just fine. But they don't keep them long enough to know if break in helps. Every saw I am currently running is well over 10 years old,seldom go more than a few days year round without running, and have never needed to be rebuilt!👍 Good luck with your new saw, and I hope you have many years of work from it!

I have used many different saw's and I use to say the same thing if they cut good then it's a good saw. But as time moves on you start thinking differently. A really good Chain is what helps make the saw so good but no matter what saw you are running you start adding how many times that saw breaks down and the cost of the saw to have it fixed or to get the part for that saw. I had a new cheap saw I wanted to play with and a guy I knew that was about 58 years old needed help with his wood. We started together and he was running a STIHL. I with a cheap Wal-Mart saw was out cutting him and his STIHL was cutting poorly. Then it happen it broke. He took it in to the STIHL dealer to get the part and yes the part that broke was made out of plastic. Now I say the saw is only good as long as it is running and the chain is sharp lmao. I have worked with guys that assumed they knew more about cutting then I did and they would not take my advice after all they know more then I do. I told them many times not to lay down to much pressure let the saw do the work but they seem to think the more they put their weight in to the saw the faster it will cut.

One thing I'll add is. You do even basic modifications to a saw. Like making better air flow through the muffler, thats enuf of a change to void your warranty. Removeing base gasket also will void warranty as the jump in compression is rather obvious. Based on law, you modify a product. You become the end manufacturer of it, and are responsible for the product. Dosen't matter if it a genuine product or a gray knock-off.

Dealers matter. Around here Stihl dealers are everywhere. There is probably 4-1 Stihl to Husqvarna dealers at least that are close by. The one main Husqvarna dealer that is fairly close the owner is an asshole. I haven't felt to welcome in there before but I was in the area and they had the sales going I was going to buy a 550xp mark II and passed. Wouldn't pay any attention to me. I know there was supposed to be a sale but everything had the full MSRP on it and he wouldn't pay any attention to me so the hell with it. We do have some other places that sell both but those are pretty much big box stores but they sell the pro stuff too its not like Lowes or something where its only homeowner stuff they sell it all. The one store has basically anything Stihl you could ever want not as much Husqvarna but they have that too just its a big box store so if you need service or parts you really need to go to a dealer. Not sure if there is any Echo dealers here sure there probably is. I think actually one ATV dealer sells them. They have basically everything from trailers, to mowers, tractors, ATVs, jet skis whatever but I know they sold Stihl forever think recently they might have got Echo as well. There is at least one RedMax dealer here too but they are mostly known for their mowers but all they are really is a red Husqvarna. I have one can't think of what the model is but its basically a rear handle version of a top handle saw. Not sure if anybody around here sells the Makita/Dolmar stuff either. I have some Makitas but I didn't get them from a local dealer. I know there is some other brands as well that aren't very common.

From my observation of the saws the "Stihl" will be cutting after the "Echoes" are long gone.

I would not say that, echos are great saws and a lot of people have ran them for a long time so...you never know!

Absolutely right man, the stihl will be cutting while the others will be going through their 2nd rebuild

@@InTheWoodyard I agree with you Chris, japanese engine seem to last longer even though I'd rather have a more powerful one like stihl (or husky) and be more comfotable too. I have stihl and echo but for me stihl has something more, also in europe we don't have that big difference in price between them.
