Stihl MS661 CM vs Husqvarna 390XPG ported

Some cuts in beechwood. Fun with two of my saws! New, out of the box Stihl RSC Chains on both saws, the 390 is woods ported.

I just ported a 390 for the first time. The transfer Tunnels seemed small. Did some calcs and set the squish, got it to breath a little better and changed the ex a fair bit. Did not think it would light up like say a 372 as pondered the port job before putting it all back together. Fired it up and wholly shit it fly's. I did not expect it to wake up like it did. They are an awesome saw ported.

The 390xp is a beast period and ported it turns it into a tree cutting monster. I just replaced mine with a 394xp but definitely plan to get another one real soon. I always found myself smiling while using the 390xp because I jumped from a 50cc straight to 88cc and I absolutely loved it. Bucking big wood in less time :]

I say have the 661 ported and put a 36" bar on both saws and you'll see which one has the power. Have a ported 661r awesome saw incredible power and torque. 390 is an awesome saw also. It's on the "to buy" list.

I own a ported 661 and a ported 385 (1mm smaller than 390) both are excellent saws but a ported 661 will out cut a 390 every time. But both these saws are not made for a girly 20” bar. These saws are designed to pull long bars 32”, 33”, and 36” this is where they really show their speed and torque.

i run a stock 390 and love it as for which is better, stihl better be cause they want as much for a 461 as i can buy a 390 for, think the stihl is a great saw but for me dealer availability is key and no stihl dealers within 20 miles my dealer is one mile.

+Gary Sarchet i tryed to put same load on the 390. Why should i cheat myself with my own saw's? At this time the 390 was ported and significantly stronger than the stock 661. Now, i have ported the 661 (PopUp etc) and the saw's are on par, maybe the 661 is a tiny bit stronger.

Husqvarna. Stihl are know for breaking down before husqvarnas are. Stihl is “supposed to have more torque”. But if you own both the husky has more torque and revs quicker.

The 661 is rated at more HP stock than the 390xp. 7.2 HP(stihl) compared to 6.5 HP(husky).

Douglas Borgaro Yeah, but that is because Husqvarna makes a saw smaller than the 661(390xp), and bigger than the 661(395xp). The 395xp would be a better comparison, but I'm not gonna complain cause they're about $1,250.

I think its funny that husky owners will go out and buy Stihl chains for there saws. My friend has done that for both is 359 and 576xp. Guess that will offset the cost. Stihl saws come with good chains from the box as where huskys have to go and buy a new one from the get-go.

+FishFind3000 Did you notice the nice upgraded bar on the husky? Being an old faller retired now I think control is way more important than sheer speed. My last falling saw was a stihl 064 Av with a modified muffler and cannon bar. When you are tickling a face on a leaner or nipping a hinge that speed will get you into trouble really fast, but it is impressive.

You wont melissa, for the reason being that husqvarna were designed for pine plantations and stihls were designed for broadleaf trees, hence why huskis are high revving and slow down in hardwoods meanwhile stihls have alot more grunt but aren't as quick,

Stinky, it refers to the cellular structure of the tree, the density and the grain, if you want to split trees into two main types it's deciduous and npn deciduous, ie broadleaves and conifers!

Papy Boyington je pense que tu a remarquer que celle de la vidéo tourne trés vite je ne pense pas que la tienne prenne autant de tour au bruit . il me semble on trouve pas en france il existe plus ou moins des piéce pot voir carbu , aprés certain vont plus loin préparation du cylindre aprés la fiabilité en prend un coup ces des tronco pour faire des concours . d'origine cela tourne a 12000/13000 tr minute s'il lui fait prendre 16000 cela va durer un temps . aprés il y a des chose raisonnable exp chez stihl kit magnum il me semble juste le pot sur la 660 qui passe de 5,2kw normal a 5,6 kw mais le régime de puissance maxi ne change pas 9500 t celui de la 390xp idem 9600 t . les machine de la vidéo on un pignon de 8 dents au lieu de 7 origine on gagne en vitesse de coupe avec un guide de 50 avec un plus grand guide le moteur force trop on gagne rien voir méme cela coupe moins vite baisse du régime moteur

Oui tu as raison,avec le pignon de 8 sur la 362,celà va mieux,j'ai même inversé les deux guides de mes bécanes,un 45 sur la 362,il y en a largement assez pour faire son bois de chauffage,et abattre des arbres de 50 cm maxi.Merci de tes renseignements

Papy Boyington tu a mis un 8 dent sur la 362 ??? tu est en 3/8 pas de chaine ou en 325 ??? SI tu veut 7 dent en 3/8 donne la méme vitesse de coupe que 8 dent en 325 si elle l'emméne 8 dent en 3/8 bonne machine enfin sur un diamétre assez important évidement sur du bois de 25 cm facile

1970 olds442 don't hate they are junk Chinese , I live 2 miles from the plant and half of my neighborhood works there. Even the employees tell me not to buy them that they suck since China got involved . But I knew China was involved when I worked for freight company LTL here locally delivering pallets to there dick MADE IN CHINA. 2006 to present all there parts come from there and quality went to shit. German owned, Built by America with all parts from China. Like they say no matter how much you polish a turd it's still a turd. They use ro be the best but suck now . You want German quality buy Dolmar , me I use Shindaiwa Echos pro line all made in Japan. I have a couple Stihl products when they were German and one China Stihl that I acummulated. 95 % of my saws now are Dolmar and Yamibiko products. Redmax was a great product at one time when Zenoah Komatsu had them then Husky bought them out and quality wasn't as good. Solo makes a great saw and are German . There US distributer is about 40 miles from here and they have a killer saw and other products but Germany said to hell with US and there emission BS so they stopped importing them here and focus on there sprayers. I may be a fucking idiot in your eyes nd others but I've been in trucking , tree and turf mgt business since mid 80s and ended up here in Va Beach since 1990. I watched companies affiliated with still USA , German owned companies close doors and got in the China game. I watched many loose jobs here producing quality products and now gone. They built a reputation in quality now it's about building with cheaper parts making money. BTW Efco isn't bad Italian

William Hill Thanks Will, I dropped a thousand pallets on Stihls dock when I worked for FedEx Freight and I can honestly tell you a 1000 had made in China on them. I live 2 miles down the street and FedEx is long gone . Now I do tree and turf mgt here. 90% of my neighbors work there and even many of them say what a piece of shit they become. Sorry peeps, years ago Stihl was the shiz but now they are all about how to make a dollar and quality went to shiz. Look up Big Bear chain saws , the same company in China that produces them produces Stihls 200 models ,junk. Start looking into Shindaiwa Echos pro line you will not be disappointed . Husky is kinda on the path Stihl is buying out Redmax, Poulan Pro, Jonsered.
