Looks like a good light, now eminently usable with V.3. I would like it better if they also added a hard stop to the other side of the dial and added a moonlight mode and added a Neutral White version.

Fenix Customer Support let me down big time with their HP16R despite the fact i bought about 6-7 expansive flashlights from them. Huge applauds for Acebeam who provided me a free Bezel for my K75 despite the fact i told them it was my fault (droped it on concrete), 3 years after i bought it.

Fenix did a great job with V3 of this flashlight, great improvement over V2 and the weight you mentioned being a bit heavier is not significant at all as guys lift weight 50 lb weight in the gym and hardly will notice 7 oz (V3) vs 6.6 oz (V2)
@ChrispyThings8 ай бұрын
What a strange take on mentioning the weight increase. Obviously a man can lift this flashlight. A baby could probably lift this flashlight. That’s not the point. The point is in a review, I will always mention the weight differences between versions. And because it’ll feel heavier in the pocket if carrying it everyday. It has nothing to do with a man straining to pick it up over a quarter ounce weight increase. This must be the strangest comment I’ve received in a long time 🤣🤣

Fenix was my entry level LED flashlight brand ~17 years ago. But there are a few reasons I abandoned Fenix in favor to Thrunite: 1: memory function for all modes(and the modes too close resulting in being unsure which mode is activated when you turn it on). 2: lack of true moonmode 3: very restrictive with neutral white options. Advantage with user interface of Thrunite: 1: direct access to moonmode and turbomode. Memory for low, mid and high mode. This means you never risk to activate turbo when you want lower mode. The separation of the lowest and highest mode from the regular modes is a great feature. 2: neutral white options for almost all models. Fenix PD40R v3 is different, though. A rotator switch is a good idea and mean you can very fast get the desired brightness level. I am tempted to get one...
@rayoflight629 ай бұрын
Thrunite flashlights may well have the specifications you require like memory mode and moonlight, but I can't say that Thrunite is generally preferable to Fenix. Fenix LED drivers are much more efficient, the quality of the electronic parts is way higher, they use Samsung or Panasonic, the machining and the anodisation are more refined. Also the light output of Fenix lights is stabilised, i.e. doesn't drop when the voltage gets lower or when the ambient temperature gets higher. Not many brands use stabilised circuits: beside Fenix, Nitecore and Surefire do it. As flashaholic I have all brands of lights, what I wanted to say is that each brand is different and it is only matter of preference and budget which brand you buy...

The hard stop after turbo was a great idea. My problem with the V2 was I would always forget what brightness I was at, and was always hitting strobe by mistake and backing back down to turbo.

I have a question around heat in the high setting mode. How hot does it remain in just high (not turbo) setting? Like a 5 minute or 10 minute test. Is it tolerable? Do you need to wear gloves to use in the high settings for extended period of time? Thank you for the time and effort! Great video!

Fenix in my opinion are the best flashlights, I just got the new Nitecore MH12 pro, and according to the specs, it's more lumens and more throw than the Fenix PD36R pro, and the Fenix PD36R pro is alot brighter and goes further, don't get me wrong, Nitecore makes a hell of a flashlight but Fenix wins in my opinion

For use as a "Tactical" flashlight the tail cap with instant access to strobe is far superior IMO. In a defense situation you simply do not have time to mess with a dial. I have the Fenix PD35 TAC (wish the lumen count was higher), Fenix TK16 2.0 (dual tail switch is not as fast as one large tail cap for hitting strobe), and Olight M2R Pro. Fenix brand seems better built, wish they would go back to One tail cap for instant strobe, and a cooler temp of light that Olight uses would be nice too, hotspot seems so much brighter.

Great Review! got the V2 and was a bit desapointed as the difference with the High & Turbo was not great. (battery being 3 years), but I just took out the batterie, cleaned a bit the interior (not needed), and but it back and tightening it up firmly : solved! really bright turbo mode. I've notice that while on turbo if I accidentally hit the tail on the table slightly but firmly: there is an instant black out and it comme back (like a blink) Do you get the same thing? It doesn't make sens for me as the spring is keeping the battery firmly in my opinion (wondering if it's a defect). - Agree with all your comment on the ring. they should provided a rubbery ring to but on top of the aluminum one! simple and efficient
@Anakena3 Жыл бұрын
solved : just added a piece of aluminium to check if this would help § it does. So it means the spring could be a bit extended - No big deal, but was wondering lol

Thank you for the review. I have this light and really like using it, but I have a lot of trouble believing that this thing will throw out to 500 meteres. From my use, getting out of the woods and railbeds after a day of hunting, I would say that the useable throw is somewhere between 100-200 meteres.
@rayoflight629 ай бұрын
In the FL1 standard, throw distance is specified with 0.25 lumens on the target. A person can see 0.25 lumen only if night vision has set in. In normal conditions, a person need one lumen to perceive clearly the source of light. Therefore, when the FL1 standard says the throw is 400 metres, in real life and for all practical purposes, the correct throw is 100 metres...

Kinda weird the run time from 350-1000 cuts to almost 1/3 compared the time of 350l. But when it goes from 1000-3000 there is not a cut to a third. That makes no sense.
@derekth71 Жыл бұрын
The torch spends most of the 'turbo' runtime down at a level closer to 'high', as it can't sustain the heat dissipation to keep it at 3000 lumens (pretty much all lights need to do this), hence the similar runtime. 😊

Quick DIY tweak, I took some gaffer tape (the one used by photographs) and cut 8 small pieces of toothpick, lay them at 90° degree accros the tape, put the tape around the ring, added a second layer of gafer around the ring and there you go you have a very responsive feeling, precise, quick, with dry or wet hands for a dollar!

I have this light and absolutely love it.i dont like having 2 hold the flashlight up by my head like law enforcement to turn on the light and then kind of have to fumble around looking for the mode button like on my pd35..i had my doubts about the pd40 after i ordered it..especially when the 1st one i got the rotary switch was messed up when on high the light would go on and off but amazon replaced it for me and the new one rocks even with gloves on super easy to operate..i have the tkue35 and dont like it at all its super bright but to short to fit all ur fingers around and operate the tail switche ..major disappointment..no more tail switches for me. Gonna try out the nitecore mh 25 and the olight seeker 4 pro and cool it for a while this is an expensive hobby..but i always go to ur videos they are definitely put together the best!

Wins what? They’re different flashlights. If you need more throw and a convenient UI you go with this. The Seeker 4 Pfo can’t throw as far but is floodier and 1600 more lumens and cones with a cool holster. Which one wins all depends on what your needs are for a flashlight.
