What does the X mean in (V9X)?
@glittalogik4 жыл бұрын
It's more common in roped climbing but it signifies that a fall is likely to prove fatal or at least career-ending. For bouldering that's highballs, and on ropes it's for runouts that are long enough to guarantee decking or hitting a ledge if you come off in the wrong spot.

@kriszteblade4 жыл бұрын
@@masonmoen2712 It was not my intention to downplay the achievent. I perfectly understand why would one want to climb such line. But is it "fair" to potential repeaters? can we compare J.Verhoeven climbing Bishop highballs above 1-2 pads only with his girlfriend as a spotter, with ascents above multiple pads and spotters. Highballing is a huge gray area and this looked absurd.
@masonmoen27124 жыл бұрын
@@kriszteblade I get what you're saying, and I also believe a major part of highballing is to embrace the danger factor of the problem. Sure pilling up 20 pads might degrade the impressive sketchyness of the climb, but nowadays I think climbers are focused more towards the pure physical ability to climb the boulder rather then encourperating both the difficulty and the danger of it. I think both our points are completely valid in their own rights, and it just depends on how you view the art of climbing. Thanks for sharing your opinion with me
