I was on the edge of my seat while you were working that one bolt! Hoping it would come on out and not break off ! I bet all four of mine do that😰 Thank you for the video sir!

Somebody told me after I broke that bolt if I had taken a ball-peen hammer and pinged those bolts to set up a vibration in them quite possibly I could have avoided @#$%%$$#😒

One tip is to weld 2 washers to the broken bolt and then a nut to the washers and they come right off

I like Mr David's suggestion. I've removed several bolts over the years by welding a nut to the end of a broken bolt or stud. Best of luck !!!

SBF, I know you will figure out a way to get this fixed. Farm mechanics is always an exercise in creative problem solving. God will inspire and guide you. He always does. He just gave me, finally, the weather I needed these last 2 weeks here in PA to spray my corn and get the last 7 acres (that have been to wet) planted. Despite the seemingly constant rain, we had just enough sunny weather to get the fields dry enough. He always provides.

I’ve also had luck on a bolt that won’t break loose to smack the head of the bolt with a hammer a few times. This will break the rust tension on the threads.

I like the weld a nut to it suggestions and heat. If that fails you can still do the easy out thing. I've had poor luck with easy outs and have broken them off in the hole I've drilled. Maybe I just have cheap easy outs. Good luck anyway.

Wish you lived closer, Weld a large nut on there, the heat from the welder will most likely free it up, if not a little heat from the torch around the bolt sure will. I worked at a mechanics shop for a few years, exhaust manifold bolts, that was our easy trick for getting them out
@farmingforfunandprofit9405 жыл бұрын
Put a nut over what is left sticking out and mig weld the nut to the protruding bolt.......let it cool down and with a wrench work it back and forth squirting water on the threads the water will wash the rust out.... chances are the heat from the weld will swell the bolt and the cooling will shrink it.......If this fails you can drill

I could have that out in about ten minutes. Put a 3/8” flat washer on the broken bolt. Weld the washer to the bolt. Put a 1/2” nut on the washer and weld it to the washer and fill up the nut with weld. Let it cool and unscrew the broken bolt.

You're on the right track with the right angle drill. A little easy out will NOT turn that bolt out if it was stuck tight enough to twist off the whole diameter of the pump bolt. Drill the bolt out to get it thin enough to get fluid into the threads along the length of the bolt. Enlarge the hole to just nick the threads in the head -by this time you should be able to vice grip it and turn it out. Tapping with a hamer also works wonders to get the rust broke loose.

Perseverance Brother, you can do this. I'll bet there will be some anti-seize used on the new water pump bolts. Sorry but are you sure a water pump with a one year warranty should go back in?

An old construction plant mechanic I worked with, had an uncanny sense of which bolts would undo. Before trying to undo them he would get a centre punch and 2lb hammer and give the centre of the bolt a clump. 9 out 10 it would come loose, sometimes it would need another clump or 2. How this worked I havn't got a clue, I've tried it on stuff that hasn't been stripped in a long while, but I clumped all the bolts just in case. Now the bolts did undo, but maybe they would have anyway. ??????

Put some penetrating oil around the bolt. Stack the odds in your favor. When you put it back together, I suggest some anti seize. Stuff works wonders. What's life with out challenges? Boring.

I had the same idea as Kenneth Marlow's comment about using a torch and try heading out first. Then use some really good video grips on it.

For broken bolts, I can normally get it out with left-handed drill bits. You could try that. If that doesn't work, the hole is in it foe the ez-out.
@rexjohnson51095 жыл бұрын
Sorry about your luck I will suggest that if other advice has failed and you are down to drilling the broken bolt if you can take a grinder and grind what is left sticking out so that it has a flat face that will help in getting drill bit not to wander out of position for drilling Best of luck to you
@farmark4575 жыл бұрын
Does the bolt go all he way through the head? Backside visible? I agree , weld a nut on it.
@mikegoodman4475 жыл бұрын
Really , Really suggest welding a nut on there. Take a larger nut about a 1/2" or larger. Place the electrode right against the bolt and really get it hot as the nut fills with weld, Don't worry about welding to the block as cast iron really won't stick as well. Once welded try just like you did to remove. If it feels like it might break again try using an impact just barely wacking it. Slow wacks tend to work well especially with penetrants. The best "easy out" on the market is made by Ridgid. Model 10 is sold by all the tool makers but is made by Ridgid. www.amazon.com/RIDGID-35585-Extractor-4-inch-2-inch/dp/B000WQYJIG/ref=asc_df_B000WQYJIG/?tag=bingshoppinga-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid={creative}&hvpos={adposition}&hvnetw=o&hvrand={random}&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=e&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl={devicemodel}&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583932699601780&psc=1 This uses a straight flute and the good part is it tends to bend a bit before it will break. The spline on the bit does not swell the bolt out. Home Depot and Lowes sells a knock of this kit made in china that I cannot vouch for. I have removed seemingly thousands of broke off bolts, so heed my advice.
