While it has been mythologised as one single event, the Christmas Truce actually occurred in several places, although by no means over the entire Front. Indeed, it was not the only truce of the war; while it never occurred on the same scale as 1914, there were impromptu truces throughout the war. Indeed, in quiet sections, there were often periods of "live and let live" truces where neither side fired weaponry to give periods for rebuilding trenches and so on. While it probably wasn't what one would call common, spontaneous truces were a significant enough issue that high command on both sides took significant steps to try and prevent it.

Always remember this truce. When British and German soldiers laid down their arms around Christmas 1914, to exchange gifts, share season's greetings and play football. Germany won 3-2 (allegedly). This is the only real event of its kind that happened in the 20th century, if at all. This should be a time remembered, cherished, loved. Thanks for bringing it to life, Jörm, you magnificent bastard. >inb4 hasn't event started yet >inb4 edited for grammar reasons

It just shows that even when at times of war when all is dark, humans can still find a way to shed the light, facing uncertainty and potential death these young men laid there arms down and some at first were still hesitant, accounts from the night was that at first instead of gunfire across no man’s land you’d hear the hymns of soldiers singing Christmas carols, there was football, gifts and lots of drinking for sure, for one night the war stopped to allow for some light to be casted over the darkest time in history.
