@riggles5 жыл бұрын
Going to start working on Pokey Pipes, seems like a challenge as it has a bunch of strange sounds. For the majority of it it sounds like various filtered beats. Gonna be a while to find fitting metallic percussion hits. Probably going to be adding a bit of depth to the sound than what the GBA allowed to make it a bit more interesting. As for Rockface Rumble I might leave that as one of the last songs, because that harmonica is actually a string of premade samples he used which has been used in a netgeo wolf documentary as well. Who knows, maybe we end up finding some sample origins in the near future.

The wooden block sounding sample is from the ROM, but layered with some other wooden block (1:18, 1:40 for example), the guitar is also some free guitar VST layered with the ROM sample as all guitar VST's lacked a certain twang in the riff. But that's all as far as original ROM sample goes. The rest is from various sample CD's from the 90's that I've been gathering, mostly Zero G and Spectrasonic ones. The flute is played together with some accordion sample at certain parts like 0:14 as just pure flute was too soft and round, but pure accordion was too harsh. Everything else is just recreated after a ton of sample browsing and editing samples to try match, those CD's but also free online sample sites. The metal sounding percussion at 0:23 was a pain to remake, think I found some kitchen pan slapping sounds online for that, there's a muted wahwah guitar rythm playing, there's also this one sample that plays 5 notes, each at a higher pitch, that kind of reminds me of raindrops. Then of course some marimba action. I haven't given up on this project, but I can't promise exactly when I'll return to it but the coming year is a good chance. My main problem is that I'm so slow at using DAWs, especially with tracks like Mill Fever which has so many electronic sounds that I take ages trying to recreate, was using mainly Massive and a bit of FM8 with that one. I need to get better at making synth patches that for sure.

Also just remembered, I used some E-MU sample CDs too, classics series, world percussion, world instruments and such.

what is the name of the sound that repeats itself a few times that plays in the background at 0:03? Listening to your whole recreation, it sounds beautiful overall, but i think that one sound plays too early. Pretty sure it plays a little bit later after comparing it to the gba original.
@DespyCL5 жыл бұрын
My bad, it actually is a little bit longer, and the one from your recreation ends too early. But other than that, the wait was really worth it, this sounds beautiful! Love the guitar and flute parts, and the realistic water wave noices you added really adds to the feel of the music~
@DespyCL5 жыл бұрын
Also, at 1:43 where the guitar solo starts, you added three sections (or repeats) of it, the original only contains 2 repeats of that solo before entering the next flute section, making your guitar solo section much longer than the original. Sorry if it is kind of hard to understand me, dont know how to explain this kind stuff properly :
@riggles5 жыл бұрын
@@DespyCL Thanks, idk, the instrument is a mashup of a vibra and a woodblock ( and possibly something else, can't remember, I fuse together sounds to try recreate the GBA sounds sometimes ). It starts at the third beat in both versions, I think it's mainly because the instrument sounds different, mine is louder too, the part riight after doesn't play identically ( different pattern ) so that's probably what throws you off. Not sure which song to start work on next, I'll see tomorrow.

@@DespyCL No issues understanding, yep the guitar motif plays for one more loop ( mostly to extend the song a little bit too ) but really liked the ambient background sound and the "monkey calls", they're actually pitched down seagulls.
