This song really has only 2 chords. The rest are "passing chords". When you can do so much with just 2 chords... you're on another level. Respect!

My eight year old grandson heard this while riding in my car. I heard a little voice say,"Grandpa! That's the best Jazz song I have ever heard!" Hugh's music and politics have passed to the next generation. :-)

Always loved this version of Stimela - He leaves no stone unturned in this intro. Such a powerful storyteller. ----------Rest in Power, Comrade and Brother Hugh Masekela

True. Hugh was such a performer and entertainer. Story teller indeed. His rapport with the audience was really something. He could be so intense and playful at the same time. The strange thing about him was how he never got old. He was still his quirky, hip self into his 70s. RIP Bra Hugh.

I've heard this song hundreds of times and it never fells to stir my soul. My ears don't know the words he speaks, but my soul sings with him flawlessly every time. My mind's eye sees the train chugging along the tracks down the mine shaft to the diamond that will make everyone except the person who discovered it rich. Stimela

TY for your work in magnifying harmony in the process of creation. It is through This Truth and Beauty we are lead to liberty. Please watch the presidential candidate Dr. shiva. I’m hoping we can hear a debate with the candidates even if a volunteer has to be found to mouth their words for them. With a little bit of luck we will have an election ‘24 let us humbly pray for strength to carry us forward to economic justice for all.

This is the only live version of this song I like. First heard the album in Japan back in 1984. Bought if off the cover, without hearing a single song. Beautiful music, lyrics and that iconic voice of his. His incredible trumpet playing and breath control was fantastic. Do yourself a favor and give Waiting for the Rain a listen.

Voor mij als Zwarte Zuidafrikaan is "Stimela" te vergelijken met "De Internationale." Tegelijkertijd bevat het elementen die in "De [tijdloze] Schreeuw" van Edvard Munch. But above all it is a story of life under Apartheid! Thanks for the upload.
