This is definitely a master piece of song writing , Bravo Mr. Sting. So much about the joys & sorrows of life in a jazz song.

Love that Sting takes some very serious, deep issues in life and just sings them simply beautifully. What an artist.

I heard this for the first time today and I was blown away. This trumpet player is amazing. I've heard less expressive singers than this trumpet player. Amazing song, wonderful musicians, and Sting. It doesn't get any better!

Lori Struss-Weatherly , Chris Botti’s version of this song on his ‘Night Sessions’ CD (2001) is amazing too! I still listen to the whole disc after all these years.

Sting is a story teller with a voice that reaches in and stokes your very soul. Each note just caresses the senses! Add Chris Botti on his magic horn and Dominic's scared guitar and you have a musical experience that is food for your soul.

This is the best version. Having percussion and not drums is a masterstroke, it floats much better

The whole disc is a masterpiece. Between the songs, there's a commentary from Sting and the band, it's just brilliant. And they way how they reinvented the songs for this performance, OMG :) This is one of the best song from him...

Those who wanted to know the lyrics to the extra verse, which don't appear anywhere on the internet, here you go: "But in one degree's removal, what he'd lost in their approval He'd made up for with a certain notoriety But the wives had colder glances, they'd a name for such romances They'd confer on all the faults that they were picking"
@noapologiesproductions53044 жыл бұрын
So, was this verse part of the original song and was later cut, or has it been added since the Chris Botti/Shawn Colvin versions?

All Would Envy (оригинал Sting feat. Chris Botti) Любой бы позавидовал (перевод Светлана из Москвы) Old enough to be her dad Он годится ей в отцы, But the young men were just mad they nursed their grievances And she was flattered by his charm It wouldn't do her any harm they all had their chances He sent her flowers and limousines She was treated like a queen Anything she ever wanted Все, чего бы она ни пожелала, - It was no problem for a man like him Не составило бы особого труда для такого мужчины, как он. And everyone expected soon That she could ask him for the moon If she would wear his ring Knowing glances from his friends In the homes at the weekends of high society But he didn't give a damn Но ему было наплевать - He never felt more like a man Он никогда еще не чувствовал себя настолько мужчиной. And all the time the clock was ticking And all would envy the older man And his beautiful young wife И его красивой молодой жене Yes, all would envy Да, любой бы позавидовал! In a house upon a hill She was there with time to kill She lived a life she'd only dreamed The life was never what it seemed To all her friends that she'd ignored She denied she was bored She had no time for dancing, no time for dancing But the clock upon the wall That was ticking in the hall Что тикали в коридоре, Always reminded her Все время напоминали ей, That life was going on as well But she was happy and she would swear She wouldn't change a thing And all would envy the older man And his beautiful young wife И его красивой молодой жене Yes, all would envy Да, любой бы позавидовал! Now it's 5 o'clock am She must have spent the night again With that old friend of her Со своими старыми приятелями - She loves to dance Она обожает танцевать. She's missing more and more these days But he's still stuck in his old ways Perhaps she needs a little more romance But the clock upon the wall is still ticking in the hall She must be home soon Where a younger man would weep He takes a pill and goes to sleep Now who would envy the older man And his beautiful young wife Who would envy? Who would envy?
