"the soul cages" song from the "soul cages" album released in 1991 .
THE FIRST SECOND ARE MISSING UNFORTUNATELY and the quality is not really excellent .
This is perhaps my favourite Sting solo carreer song . Great atmosphere ,power and a great Dominic Miller "dark" and atmospheric style.
We can see Dominic Miller on guitar ,Manu Katche on drums and Kathryn Tickell on Oboe.
Enjoy!!

There are so many neat things about this song, it's not easy (for me) to pick just one or two, but here goes-- Around 2:53 when the lyrics get REALLY dark, ("What's in it for me, my pretty young thing?") the bass line DROPS an octave. It's sort of like the song quits being merely a nice "rocker" in a minor key and becomes downright SCARY-dark, and makes the 4:15 U-turn back into the chorus from "Island of Souls" somehow even more powerful and amazing. Gosh what a great song! Thanks for publishing and (of course) THANK YOU, Sting!

There are indeed so many things about this song and album... The U-turn into the chorus from "Island of Souls" (My absolute favourite song in life at the moment) is so powerful. When you hear all the album at once on a vinyl for example, that chorus comes back like an echo... The whole album becomes a complete never ending soul cage masterpiece. Sting said just recently in an interview with Rick Beato that this album was a very special one. It was the first album performing with Dominic Miller and also said that it was during the time he lost his parents. I started listening to this album after going to a Sting concert in Munich in July and felt the connection instantly without knowing the fact. I have been also dealing with those emotions, because my mom has been battling disease during some time now.

Soul Cages is a masterpiece and an album that is best appreciated if you are in emotional turmoil. Dominic Miller's guitar tone is killer and this album would not be what it is without his tasteful playing. My two cents..

This song beat 'enter sandman' to best rock song at the Grammys. Although it's maybe not as instant a classic anthem I can totally see why. Lyrically its deep, the poetry, metaphor and analogy on display are extraordinary. It's not easy to write a song on this articulate and literary level and keep the swagger and passion of a raw rock track - it seriously jams.

Apparently you have not listened to Queensryche's Silent Lucidity, a far superior song compared to this crapper! There must have been a major conspiracy to allow this the win over Queensryche, Metallica, and Jane's Addiction! Compare the views here on KZbin to see what I'm talking about. Does Sting even perform this song during his concerts now? I know Geoff Tate sings Silent Lucidity at pretty much every single concert he plays at, and it's the best song in his set every time!

@ Celeste Vigliotti It rings the bell for me personally, my dad was an expert in navigation electronic equipment (radar radio GPS etc) and shortly after I lost him to cancer in 2002, I had the dream, we were on a ship ready to set sail, but for some reason he left on that ship without me and we could not be buddies anymore Since, I had dreams with him just showing up for a chat and show me he could do flips in the air like weightless, then it's a goodbye till we meet again. One time I saw him and he was just going to take a nap... And I was conscious that he had died but has life someplace else

Dominic Miller is really great on this. I wonder if pristine copies of this are out there. I saw this concert in NYC in 1991. First time I saw Dominic play. Like Andy Summers, Miller is very much into dissonant chords and Brazilian jazz. As a Brazilian jazz guitar player since the age of 14, I appreciate seeing this guys using warm and complex phrasing derived from the principles I was so influenced by and shaped my playing. The Police was my favorite band in the 80's and their style has become timeless, universal and eternal. Thanks for the upload! Cheers!

Friends, It was an unreal experience to see Sting & his band perform the whole Soul Cages CD @ The Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles Calif. just after it was released. I agree with the "gregorian corals" comment, The only way I can describe the way it sounded Live to me, the music & vocals had a scary/ other worldly sound. I honestly feel Soul Cages is up there among Sting's best work.
