ancient native americans would collecrt nettle all the time- through the years, they figured out that our spit neutralizes the poison of nettle leaves- they would lick their finger BEFORE plucking leaves to do it without pain=)

I've suffered from hay fever for years And the thing I've found is that nettle tea is the best thing to help me through the day. I pick them fresh with some mint leaves. Brew them up in a pan. And drink it throughout the day. Sometimes add some raw honey. The young leaves at the top are best.

Stinging nettle seeds are great for poultry, my turkeys go out of their way to eat them and my chickens eat the bits the turkeys drop because they aren't tall enough to pick their own. I cook with nettles a lot so will share a recipe that I call Bubble and Sting. It is like Bubble and Squeak but with steamed nettles replacing the cabbage, when mixed with left over mashed spuds and then fried it is absolutely heavenly. I live in Bulgaria and all parts of the nettle are used for food and medicine, there is a great herbal medicine tradition here and if you go to see your GP you are just as likely to be prescribed herbal medicine as big pharma stuff. At the moment I am gathering artemesia, we are going to add it to our apricot rakia (demon, home made spirit) for a new take on absinthe.

I have a very large patch of nettles next to my house. I always wondered about them because the seeds I got from them look different than the photos I've seen of nettle seeds. Now after watching your video, I think my entire patch is male plants. May I please ask, 1. Is it possible to have a patch of male-only plants? 2. So the "seeds" on the male plant are not good for medicine? I have been harvesting them for several years. I love the way they taste and use them as a seasoning on food.

THANK YOU! I'm a dedicated forager in Ohio, where we have lots of nettles, but I haven't run in to any for about 25 years; not because they aren't here-- just because I haven't looked in the right places. Until TODAY! This video helped to confirm my identification. Like you, I'm interested in everything about plants: medicine, food, history, myth, and magic, so my apothecary is extensive, along with books I've compiled. I have recipe books that include the nutritional, medicinal, and magical properties of ingredients. I have foraging maps I've drawn, with marked paths and photos showing where and when I found my treasures in the woods and meadows that surround me. And I have a thick tome containing detailed information on every plant, on every jar, on my shelves. And my jar labels have so much information on them that they look like they are FDA (and witch!) approved! Finally, stinging nettles were brought to the United States from England -- Europe. My ancestors came here almost 400 years ago. Do they bring nettles? They certainly used them, along with many other plants I forage. So now I have a connection to my ancestors. To history. And to You! How cool is that? So glad I found you. Subscribed.

I have a question. When you forage nettles, what do you do about the bugs you accidentally collect with them? I collected a some nettles recently for the first time to make some tea, but when it came to putting them into my pot, I realised I had a load of bugs too, and I couldn’t bring myself to boil them, so I put them on my lawn and have effectively wasted them. But I didn’t want to kill the little guys, I didn’t realise I’d picked up so many, I felt like such an ass. How do you get around that?

Perhaps an important sidenote: Nettle is a powerfull agent to bind heavy metals in her being from the soil, it is because of the magnesium ions in her abundant chlorofyl. Advisable not to collect around heavy industry, busy roads or otherwise poluted grounds.. This also means, when the magnesium ions are vacant, they are able to withdraw heavy metals from out bodies and thus a strong detoxifier.

I did the rest of the work- that’s the deal😁. Now I have a jar of dried nettle seeds and I add a teaspoon to my yogurt and mix them in. It’s beneficial to my mental health as well as physical and I’m trying hard to improve both. I’m learning a lot from your videos- and so is my husband, I’m very lucky he shares my enthusiasm ❤.

In the states , our variety has male and female on the same plant. Male ( pollen flowers) open earlier. I'm nearing the end of the season here in northern NY state and have collected 2 and half quart jars of seeds from my two little patches. Hopefully collect so roots later on. I ate some greens earlier and they were quite good. On another channel they suggested cutting some down so they'd have greens longer. I may try this next year. I'm also going to try cultivating nettle.

Great video, but it's not a gift of mother nature, that's a concept of paganism, which I know sometimes is sadly tied to herbalism. But it's the Almighty God that has made these things, the Spirit in the man we know as Jesus Christ that has done all these things. It hasn't made itself. God bless

If you don't want to get stung, you can pull or cut the nettle down, and come back after a few hours, and they won't sting you. Just make sure they've gone floppy.
