My daughter bought me the excursion "Everybody Loves Rays & Sharks! (Stingray Beach Cozumel). Check out my review below! I read the excursion description and looked at the pictures and was excited to go since I actually do love stingrays and sharks (nurse sharks). It was a short bus ride from the ship terminal to Stingray Beach Cozumel. The first 30 min was a stingray encounter where they let you feed the stingrays and take photos with the stingrays. Unfortunately, they do not allow personal cameras in this area because they want to sell you their photos. This is why there is no footage from the stingray encounter. Next up was the snorkeling in the large enclosure which lasted about 30 min where they did allow you to use your own cameras. We snorkeled around as the guide fed the stingrays and I got some wonderful footage of the stingrays one of which was pregnant and even a nurse shark.
My takeaway from this experience... I was expecting an open area where stingrays and nurse sharks congregated naturally (or at least I was hoping). The stingrays did not appear as healthy as those in the wild and the guide said they are rescues. Many of the stingrays had scars and abrasions. They also remove the stingray barbs for the safety of the visitors. The barbs do grow back over time and since the stingrays are enclosed they do not need them for defense, but I am still not comfortable with the practice. I would rather experience stingrays in their natural habitat. Next time I visit Cozumel I plan on visiting Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park for snorkeling or one of the reef excursions. Keep this in mind when you plan your next Cozumel excursion.

Last time I was in Cozumel we just caught a taxi to the Money Bar Beach Club and snorkelled in the sea next to it for free. If you want a snack or drink you can get one at the Money Bar or the shop across the street. We saw quite a lot of fish there. You might like to give it a try. You can rent chairs and umbrellas there too if you want - we prefer to just sit somewhere in the shade on our towels and not pay anything. ;)

Thanks! I've heard of that place. I was originally going to go to Chankanaab Marine Park. It's just a couple of miles from the ship terminal and small fee and you can snorkel all day. Plus they have many other activities.

Great video Toneman! At first I was a yay then I read your review and changed to the middle of the road. It's cool what they are doing to rescue them and such, it just seems a more natural environment would be better. We have a couple of tiger sanctuaries near us where they have rescue animals that can never go back to their natural environment, cool that they are taken care of, sad that they can't live the life they were created to. thanks for another great vid.

Do you like a full faced mask? All our gear was stolen at St. Andrews a few weeks back and I’m itching to get back in the water. Just wanted to see if you had an opinion on the newer snorkel masks before I go buy everyone new gear. Thanks ☺️

I personally prefer a traditional mask and snorkel because I take out my snorkel occasionally and want to keep my mask on so it dosen't fog up. My wife has a full face mask and loves it. There are also some health concerns about the full face masks. I would suggest Googling info/concerns on the full face masks so you are fully informed. 😉👍

Leigha,if you dont mind me adding to what the Toneman said. We have some of the full face masks,the plus is they are convenient, easy to use and pretty cool for just top of the water snorkeling. They are not very convenient if you like to dive down a little bit to get closer to the bottom .The other drawback for me is that I’m not a smallish person and have had some difficulty breathing with them as the air tubes are not big enough for my lung capacity. I can use them fine just not to excess. I used mine last year in Key West snorkeling a reef, it was challenging but doable. Since then I bought a Tusa set with a dry top snorkel,works very well.Hope that helps.

Check out the review I just did. They are great for the surface, ok diving down if you are a confident snorkeler that doesn't panic, and not a good idea if you are a nervous snorkeler that wants to dive down. Water seeps in when you go down a few feet, and the purge valve does not work as well as a traditional dry top snorkel.
