With the sabre there is a weakness between the thinnest part of the frame. Its almost like the motor is too strong for the frame. Is this the vase with this machine?

I’ve not known this machine to have this issue.

So is this machine build for lining and colorpackers? And the dragonfly x2 for more black andgrey soft shading ?
@JonoSmithTattoo4 жыл бұрын
The Stingray is a dedicated liner and the Dragonfly is good for shading. Though the Dragonfly actually lines really well too. So if you could only buy 1 I’d recommend the Dragonfly as it’s a great all rounder.
@simonkristiansen9603 жыл бұрын
@@JonoSmithTattoo ey mate, do you have many hours into working with dragonfly? i don't understand how it would do a one pass line good unless its a 3rl-5rl.. The machine is so super soft, even with the give turn all in. I find dragonflyx2 impossible to colour pack aswell good with, but stingray is very good line and i could not just live with the dragonflyx2, without having the stingray.
@JonoSmithTattoo3 жыл бұрын
@@simonkristiansen960 Sounds like your technique is definitely more suited to a hard hitting machine. I’ve never found the Dragonfly X2 too soft for lining to be honest but with tattooing everyone is different. The Stingray X2 is definitely much harder hitting than the dragonfly.

Hi Jono! First of all i would like to thank you for all the amazing content you provide. I had a stingray v1 that i liked but i sold it a long time ago. I am going back to tattooing again and will be investing in new equipment, is the stingray still doing the job for you? I was looking into getting one stingray and one dragonfly for lining and shading but the market of rotary now is insane. Would it be wiser to invest in like a cheyenne pen or a xion by fk irons? Looking forward hearing from you, cheers from sweden! :)

hey, do you have by any chance a comparison to a stigma (preferably prodigy or amen) - which one has less vibration? thank you in advance!
@JonoSmithTattoo9 жыл бұрын
Hi I haven't used the Amen but I have briefly used a prodigy. I think both would be pretty minimal as far as vibrations go. From what I know, the Amen is primarily a liner and purpose built for lining where as the prodigy can line, colour and shade. Hope this helps.

i have a stingray x2 and i cant figure how to line with it.....can you be more specific? how many cap turns and at what voltage? for 5 and 7 RL
@JonoSmithTattoo9 жыл бұрын
+figther1989 It all depends on how you tattoo. What sort of technique you use. For a ball park figure I'd say line with it around 9 volts with the cap all the way down to maximum hit. But at the same time, you need to be really careful running these like this because it's REALLY easy to blow out on someone if you're not careful. If you search my other videos, there's one which covers what voltage to use with any top end rotary machine. I think this will really help you out.
@figther19899 жыл бұрын
Thank you.....i also heard that you can unscrew the cap all the way up..till it allmost falls off .....for lining.people say its a verry good machine for lining...but my opinion is that you cant do solid first pass lines with rotaries......and if you can ....you have to go real real slow.
@JonoSmithTattoo9 жыл бұрын
+figther1989 yes it can be a bit of a learning curve, especially if you're used to coils. You just have to take your time and really stretch to get those lines in. The cap does actually come off at about 3 1/2 turns. It's so it can be lubed.

I know that the cup comes of afther 3 1/2 turns so you can lube the machine,but some artists told me that they usualy line loosing the cup 3 turns....allmost to the point that i comes off...but they were realistic style tattooist's and havent seen clean one pass lines from them used in traditional tattoos.I specialize in realistic tattoos,but i need the liner for some details and putting some white dots at the end ..to make it pop off:) Also need the liner for lettering,and i get frustrated because it takes too long with the stingray to put clean first pass lines :) i'll give your method a try ...:)

What's the little flick switch on the side (next to the cam) do? Thanks.👍
@JonoSmithTattoo8 жыл бұрын
It's just a little switch when you press it down the needle goes all the way to the top position & when you lift it up the needle fully positions itself out the tube. It's pretty handy for setting your needle depth when setting up. Thanks for watching.

Hi I just bought the same machine this week and this is my first time using ratory machines, so can you tell me how do you tune the machine for lines and for color? Thanks mate.
@JonoSmithTattoo9 жыл бұрын
Hi David, you don't really 'tune' rotaries as you would coils. It all depends on how you tattoo. There's so many variables. For example, tattoo type, hand speed, technique just to name a few. All I would say for ball park starting points, around 7-8 volts for colour and 8-9 for lining. Soft or hard give, again is really down to the individual actually tattooing and what they're comfortable with. Hope this helps.
@dacosta31469 жыл бұрын
Jono Smith thanks that helped me a lot, I've been traying to line with 5 volts cos I've been told that you need to be carefull with the rotarys so that was the problem, with 9 volts the machine runs great!

Hows the vibration with the stingray? More, less or about the same as with the dragonfly?
@JonoSmithTattoo7 жыл бұрын
After using both I'd say it's slightly more than the dragonfly purely because it hits so hard but it's not a massive difference but there is definitely a difference all the same.

Hello everyone, I just wonder if the stingray X2 would be able to use the FK RPG grip? Thanks in advance.
@JonoSmithTattoo7 жыл бұрын
Yes it can but you do need to remove the spring from the Stingray first otherwise you'll overwork the motor.
@CypressCaliber7 жыл бұрын
hey mate, do you know what those color coding cams in the sting ray machine such as green, black,red, and the original one. please tell what their specific jobs?
@JonoSmithTattoo7 жыл бұрын
The cams are to make the machines run slightly different depending on your tattooing style. For example the black cam will give you a long stroke and be very hard hitting (which is probably what most tattooists are comfortable with. Where as the blue cam will give you the same long throw but will hit the skin a little softer. This would be suited for somone that likes to sculpt lines rather than doing one pass lines or would work well for colour packing. Then you've got the green cam which has a shorter stroke but still hits hard. This would run pretty similar to a pucnhy coil liner machine. Finally the red cam has the shortest stroke of the lot but will also make a softer hitting machine. This again would be like using a softer hitting coil to sculpt lines with. With everything involved with tattooing, it's very much down to personal preference. What works for someone might not work for the next person. There's a lot of trial & error & finding what best works for you. Thanks for watching.

Hi. Why it is so noisy??
@JonoSmithTattoo9 жыл бұрын
+Face Boutique by Irina Beauty & Cosmetic Tattoo Melbourne / Permanent Makeup Melbourne Hi I think it's probably a mixture of 2 things. Firstly it does come across slightly louder on video than it actually is. I'm guessing it was because the camera was so close to it. But secondly, it is definatley a lot louder than it's counter part the Dragonfly X2. I'm pretty sure it's down to the new cam system inside it.

Hello Jono, Spektra Halo vibrates like a bitch with disposables if you are not using metallic grips, I only found low vibrations using the short stroke cam. Bought it after reading a lot about it at the rotary tattoo forum but I'm a bit disappointed with it. Definitely not good for lining. How do you like the Stingray after this time? Does it vibrate with disposables to make it uncomfortable? I'm thinking on buying both the new X2 Dragonfly and Stingray but wanted to hear your opinion. Thanks for the review ;)
@JonoSmithTattoo9 жыл бұрын
Hi I only use disposables and this machine hasn't any vibration with them at all. The vibrations you're taking about probably result from the motion of the cam. I haven't actually used the dragonfly x2 yet but I've seen them in action and they're pretty much silent and vibration free so I'll definitely be buying one soon for a shader. The Stingray in this video though, is really impressive at lining and amazing at colouring too.

Thanks a lot Jono, good to hear that. I´m going for them, Halo is not bad but yes, the cam system gives some vibrations. Hope to see more vids from you! ;)

Hi John, are you still enjoying your machine? Tell me have you had any experience or maybe heard any feedback (from trusted source) about LACEnano machine? What they say about it (on their website) and user reviews (also on their website) make me believe that LANCEnano easily beats Stingray www.lacenano.com/ I'm looking into buying proper rotary machine and I narrowed it down to this two: Stingray and Lacenano, and the only reason I'm still hesitating to buy Lacenano is because it's still quite new technology coming from young company. What you think? Thanks
@JonoSmithTattoo7 жыл бұрын
Hi, I've never actually used a LACEnano but a client of mine brought his in to show me. I didn't use it but I had a good look at it and the very first thing that struck me about it was just light it is. It's easily the lightest machine I've ever held. I'm afraid that's all I can comment on it for now though. I've used lots of rotaries but to be honest, after I switched to the Cheyenne Pen, I've never looked back. I use my Pen everyday for every job. lt's without doubt the best machine I've ever used. If you've got the money, my advice would be to invest in a Pen. Plus the cartridges are a massive time saver. Good luck with it all. Thanks for watching,
