Thank you for this! I love Buddleia's ☺ When we moved into our current house 2 years ago, there was a teeny tiny one at the bottom of our garden. We left it alone, and it's absolutely huge now! 😃 it's made a nice a shady spot to sit under in the summer! I'm planning on collecting some of it's seeds, and planting a long line of then down one side of the garden 😂 Take care ☺

Hi weedbruv, buddliea hedging! Love it😊 they only flower on new growth each year so to keep the flowers low down a good chop back each year helps, they are such tough plants you can’t go wrong. Thanks for watching, all the best Robbie 🌻

Thank you so much. I had thought the large round pods in a limb from last season were seeds. You demonstrated that they were not. They are flowering pods only.

I took a White Buddleia cutting in July 2014. It didn't grow very well because of location and competition from other plants. I moved it in Autumn 2017 to somewhere sunnier and clearer and it grew beautifully. I have it on the top left of my channel homepage in 2018, sadly it died in May 2019 due to wood rott from too much soil at the base. Luckily I had already taken a cutting from this plant in 2018 when it started to grow for me. This cutting is the one I still have today and it looking very healthy.

Interesting, mine grow all over my property, but I've saved some seeds. What are the sightly larger, black round things? I thought they were the seeds, but I have the real seeds too, thanks to you showing us the difference.

I've just bought some of these seeds, think theres 250 approx, should I plant immediately I'm trays and place under cover on windowsill (as I dont have greenhouse), plant straight outside in trays, or keep them in freezer a while? Many thinks if you do reply. Keep up the good work!

Hi smithy2365, buddliea are such amazing survivors, a seed can germinate on concrete and then break its roots through, saying that they can be such a waiting game, I’d do half with a bit of cold treatment and the other half now in a warm, damp compost. Buddliea can be such erratic terminators. I’ve sown seed in April before with success. The main thing with them is patience, oh and if you are cold treatmenting don’t let the seeds freezer dry, gotta stay hydrated. All the best of luck Robbie 🌻

Do I need to do anything else through the winter like water them 🤷🏼♀️
@stinkyditchnursery7502 жыл бұрын
Hi Deborah Fonner, once your buddliea has stopped growing for winter they don’t need watering if planted in the ground. If in a pot then only water occasionally if the soil in the pot starts to dry out. It’s better to give them a good drenching once every couple of weeks rather than just a little but only if they need it due to the pot drying out. Once they start growing again in spring continue to water as normal. I hope this helps Robbie 🌻

Are they like apple trees in that they need another Butterfly Bush of a different variety to produce viable seeds -- or seeds at all? Do they have different sexes like Holy perhaps? Maybe by bush was a boy! None of my neighbors have one that I know of. Certainly none are remotely close. I had a full grown single bush that was in our yard when we moved in 22 years ago. It was probably there for a lot longer than that. I never once had any volunteers under or in the vicinity of the bush - that I noticed anyway. None made it to the point where they announced themselves like Rose of Sharon do. Now the damn thing has died on me. I am looking for another but I want a large one. Mine got to be about 12 feet tall. The ones in the garden centers have only ones that claim to go as high as six feet. Most are the dwarf sort. Six feet is half what mine was in partial sun. Of course I don't know the variety as I did not buy it, but it had the most common shade of purple flower. I have no reason to believe its a rare or hard to find variety and yet….. I have read online that some Earth Mamas falsely think its an "invasive" plant. How can that be so? Invasive plants like the purple loosestrife in New England are a real problem but the Earth Mamas trivialize the problem by falsely claiming every plant at the local garden center is "invasive". Have you seen any evidence that Butterfly Bushes reproduce themselves without help? Perhaps in the subtropical regions?

Will these germinate in a shaded area??.. can I just cast them where i want them to grow? It freezes here Colorado plains.. in November to March
@stinkyditchnursery7503 жыл бұрын
Hi Kaitte Murry, they should be fine, I start mine off in the shady part of the greenhouse that receives no direct sunlight. I have been growing a few on in the shade and they flowered ok. The cold spell is good for them, they need it to germinate well. So, yes I think if you sow the seeds in fall they will get their cold spell and should start sprouting next spring. I hope this helps Robbie 🌻
@sherrymoxley2 жыл бұрын
If I just sprinkle them out in a sunny area do you think some of them will make it?
@stinkyditchnursery7502 жыл бұрын
Hi Sherry Myers, buddliea are incredibly good at sprouting anywhere. Sowing outside at this time of year is perfect. If you sprinkle them in a few lines it is easier to see them when they start to appear and to distinguish them from other things popping up. They transplant easily so can be moved once they are a few inches tall. You probably won’t get any coming up until spring but they do like a bit of a cold spell so now is a good time to sow. I hope this is of some help, all the best of luck Robbie
@mousumidutta68132 жыл бұрын
Can you give an update? Did you get seedlings and how long it took to germinate? Its late spring here, can I start the seeds now or wait till Fall?
@stinkyditchnursery7502 жыл бұрын
Hi Mousumi Dutta, I didn’t do a follow up vid, I really should get a bit more organised! It’s fine to sow the seeds in spring, I have found that they will germinate without a cold period but just won’t get as many sprouting. They should take about 20-30 days to start going. Wait until they are about 2-3 cm tall and then transplant into small pots. So in answer your question, Yes get some seeds going now. I hope this helps, all the best of luck Robbie 🌻
