This Stirling Engine design from the "Andy Ross Stirling" design converts solar thermal energy into an engine with an estimated 70-100 watts of power. This is the most powerful Stirling I have ever tested and would take a finger off . IT IS NOT A TOY! This engine sounds like a gas weed eater. It destroys the false myth that STIRLING ENGINES have very little torque. THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL engine.www.greenpowerscience.com/

Very nice sterling Dan. But keep in mind that 60 watts of almost maintenance free, silent solar power is less than $300 at amazon. However, I think solar concentrated Sterling engine power is the future and likely could be produced in a cost effective way to reach the masses. Great work Dan.

Dan, love the Sterling engine and 100 Watts is really good for something this small. These really do have solar applications that produce real energy. My only fear is people around the world might figure out they can generate all their electricity the old fashioned way with these just as easily and cost free. You burn weeds, brush ,scrap wood, trash and you name it.

It has a bio organic feedback for calculating the rate of angular momentum coupled with a wooden internal dynamometer for mental calculation of joule conversion:-) JK it was just a guess when I ran the engine. The next day after filming I attached an induction motor with rare earth magnets replacing the rotor to the shaft and was about to run when the stand fell over and bent the shaft. Engine was never the same after that. Someone traded me some nice tools cabinets and small milling equipment for the the damaged engine. I told him it was broken and need repairs but he really wanted the engine. So no more videos to get a true power potential. So just a guess. Was a great engine.

huh, after seeing Mr Rojas on doomsday preppers ,I sent him an email suggesting his F lens could be best put to use with a sterling engine to generate electricity. See he tried the idea with obvious success. I live in Lithia Fl and would love to get together with Mr Rojas. He's an amazing innovator ,and out of box thinker with serious skills. An idea I was given is to use electric radiator fans to circulate air through my house during shtf ,I'm going 12 volt little by little on a budget. By the time the world takes a major crap,I'd like to be somewhat able to live in a civilized manner ,its just getting there on a budget(very small budget).

I love watching ya work with your Stirling. It is the extra element that makes all your Fresnel Heliostatic material even more special. Stirlings are way overlooked. No load though, but that's for other vidz. You always talk about the DYI aspect, but I'm always thinking about big facilities. People look at what you do with one lens and one Stirling and miss the possiblities with massive arrays using the same concepts. I'd love to chat with you one day and see what big ideas you've formulated.

This is amazing !!! Imagine on a large scale how much torque these would produce with a double piston setup!!! ..... not to mention this works with pressure differentials and would be much more reliable because its not an explosion kicking that piston down its more of a progressive expansion ! This would be an amazing way to create green electricity !!!

Dan, a short fast linear stroke engine is perfect for making direct, no-bearings or seals AC power. Put it through a power rectifier and some filters and you got DC. Think of a solenoid in reverse. But with the short stroke of the Stirling and the price of 12mm x 1mm neodymium discs, I go with a plate covered with those inside a coil. The small magnet fields are intense on the plane of the plate but fall off quick, a short stroke is all it needs to produce change in the coil. V=BAN/dt or about.

Haha, so awesome Dan. You can hardly contain your excitement. So the question is, where'd ya get it? This reminds me of "Sterling Energy System" and their SunCatcher design. I know it can work, and I dream of building my own one day (using a satellite dish as a collector, really looking forward to that rig, btw). Fantastic looking engine, though, the thermal dissipation bricks are an interesting approach (as opposed to fins).

Dan, This is Mike that sent videos on Gasification a while back. Nice Andy Ross engine. These were a limited production run and should be pressurized with @ least Helium. I'd like to clarify my stance on Stirlings.. They will produce power but they are fairly difficult to scale and materials are EXPENSIVE for the hot end. They are not readily available in large sizes and HP per LB is still fairly low. They are mostly available in marginal HP. Check out the one ( FPSE )on my page I just sold.

This was great. Maybe do a follow up showing the best ways to harness that kinetic force, mechanical implementation (fly wheel, belt, pulley, chain, gear/sprocket), and kinetic energy conversion to stable usable electricity formats. Ultimately I would love to see Dan Rojas work with an independent 3D design and printing group to build a modular solar energy plant, that could fit say in the back of a pick-up truck, which could be powered by said portable solar power plant, off the top my head.

@MrNik1001 I'm kinda new to this stuff, he's actually magnifying the sun, that's a big magnifying lens focusing the sun on the (copper?) tube on the top cylinder. as the top tube heats the air in that cylinder expands and forces the piston down, the air is cold in the horizontal chamber and the piston sliding open creates suction and pulls itself back closed and this process repeats spinning wheel Part i don't understand is the connection between the 2 chambers. Sorry If I got any of that wrong

The catalytic converter requires a certain temp to prevent catalyst poisoning which is the buildup of certain contaminants coating the internal surface area. While a Stirling engine would not draw enough heat to cause this issue there is a limit and 3 HP would be a serious engine. TEG technology advancements may offer a solid state alternative.
