This "episode" is a long one, but we did a lot to bring this half of our quonset hut/woodworking shop conversion to completion. We started work to put a functional bathroom in the quonset hut over two years ago. So it was a small, but oddly satisfying moment when we finally heard the sound of a flushing toilet. Thank you everyone for following along with this project. We'll pick it back up soon, but need to switch gears and work on some things in the garden and with our bees. Until the next video, God bless! +AMDG

A little bead of plumbers putty around the edge toilet it self-helps a lot in stabilizing the toilet before attaching to floor flange, Thanks for sharing

Absolutely! As I mentioned in the video, one of the reasons we put the rubber roll flooring down in the bathroom was to make the seal between the toilet bowl and floor more stable. It worked perfectly. There is zero movement. Thank you for watching!

Good instructions. It is now 6/18 and I saw that Koehler is making their 2 part toilets with the bolts for the tanks on the bottom of the tank, but they don’t go through the tank. Looks like they will make it more water tight. Like your videos.

Richard Trethewey would be proud. I like the flooring. No seams either.

Haha! Thanks, Patrick. So long as he didn't look too closely at my solder work. Good catch on no seams on the floor. That was another plus to this product. Blessings to you and yours.

I came across your vids and been enjoying them this weekend. The farm looks like a great place to live your life. And it's nice to see your kids are learning what it takes to get stuff done. Great family and really enjoyable watching. Thanks for sharing.

No leaks on any of the plumbing, especially working with copper, was great! Having a functional bathroom in the shop and hot water for the sink - after two years of work - what a blessing!

Running water and a toilet is something you think you can do with out until you don't have it. Good job.

Thanks! We use the whole set up more than I even thought we would - so you're right. It's been a blessing that previous owners put so much infrastructure in the ground that we weren't even aware of when we bought the property.

Great job on the install my friend. I'm a big DIYer myself, and I've found that when I have had a stressful day, I'd better not try and do anything too complicated. Inevitably I'll install something upside down or backwards. Glad to know I am not alone... If space is an issue in the bathroom, Amazon has a small stainless steel Bar Sink that just might fit your need. Take care and God Bless.

Thanks Randy, and no, you are definitely not alone. In the end, it turned out fine that we went ahead with the work day, but definitely provided an opportunity to grow in patience. :-) God bless you and yours!

Thanks! Our plan was to do more work on this project over this Christmas break, but we're uploading a video tomorrow that shows why we had to change plans. We really do hope to finish the quonset hut project this winter, but it's always a matter of what else MUST get done at the moment with limited time and resources. But that you for your kind words and support. As soon as we finish it, we promise a tour!

I hear you on trying to find what you need. Seems like they tend to stock what is common in your area. Out last place had had weird duct work. Could not find a part we needed at our local store. Went to the same store in a different area and they had all types of what we needed. Lesson learned and when we needed parts we went to that one. Project is coming a long great. Something satisfying about sweating pipes.

We've run up against that a few times on this project, but again, in the big scheme of things we're blessed to have most things readily available day and night and on weekends. Wasn't like that in the "good old days." Thanks for the kind words about the project - we're really excited about it. And thanks again for sending so many new viewers over to our channel. We really appreciate it!

Change of subject here... When you get a few spare minutes, check out this young man on You Tube. His name is Nathan Alef. He's a young pianist up in Oregon with incredible talent. He collaborates with some incredible YT talent such as Peter Hollens (check out Peter's channel too.) Nathan's latest song on the piano was written by Peter Hollens "December Song" And it is truly amazing. Why am I mentioning this you ask? Good question... Nathan looks JUST like your son. It's really uncanny. Take car my friend.

Wow! That young man is talented! Wonderful pianist. And yes, we laughed, he does bear a striking resemblance to our son. His doppelgänger! Thanks for the recommendation to check it out. I play his Lala Land medley, and my three oldest came running to watch and listen.

Hi there, just discovered your channel and I love this series on the Quonset hut. Good job so far! What do you plan on doing for that gap between the osb and the floor? I don't think baseboards would be practical, was that something you were thinking about? Keep up the good work!
@StIsidoresFarm
@StIsidoresFarm 7 жыл бұрын
John, Good question. I've gone back and forth about it. Most of the time I don't really care, because it is a closed gap - meaning the osb overlaps the pressure treated plate by 3/4." Still, as a former contractor (and finish carpenter before that), it does bother my sensibilities not to cover that gap with trim. If I do go with some type of baseboard, it will likely be a very simple piece of wood. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I really like your videos, even though the building/plumbing stuff is way over my head; the way you explain and show your screw-ups can be appreciated by all (not that you have many). I so empathize with your dear wife with the Lowe's safari. So let us know when you have a Quonset Hut-warming. :)

Nancy, no worries, we'll get back to other video subjects before long. As to a Quonset Hut-warming, actually we've had that thought. Possibly some time around the feast of St. Isidore, assuming we have it done by then (5/15/2017). As to the safari, we used to joke about our Friday night dates to Lowe's when we bought our first home that was a definite fixer upper. None of us really enjoyed this trip, but she was actually very helpful in finding plumbing fittings that I somehow seemed to miss. Thank you for your kind and supportive words!

Sir how is your water heater working with some use now?
@StIsidoresFarm
@StIsidoresFarm 7 жыл бұрын
It is still working fine, but I must admit that we do not use it heavily. Ans now that it's summer, it is producing extremely hot water. It's a shame that a few folks have commented that the Ecosmart water heater did not work or last for them. Seems like it is a nicely built unit to us, and we have had no issues.

why dont just use a compost toilet ?
@StIsidoresFarm
@StIsidoresFarm 7 жыл бұрын
The main reason we used a flush toilet was because there was a pre-existing septic tank and septic field on the property that was not being used. We simply tied into that system. This was explained in a previous video about the septic system. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

the propane stoves and heaters the same way PAIN IN THE ASS Lowe's most of the time don't carry SHIT every thing YOU DON'T NEED! I think you been better off with a bigger Electric hot water tank. That one just good for 5 gallon. and put a off and on switch on it or a timer NICE WORK! Now the pain of wall paper ect
Decent idea from an old brake disc!
