Stitch & Glue Canoe Part 1

A little project for the summer holidays. I did my own design for the canoe in Fusion 360 and printed some templates. This is my first canoe project and to be honest the biggest project that I've ever done.
Filmed with Sony A6400 with Sigma 35mm f1.4 and Sony 18-135 f3.5-5.6.

Your design is good! It is just when transferring the lines to plywood’s then saw them were very difficult. I think that you did a great job! I like the canoe very much! What is the length and the width? How many sheets of plywood you used? How thick are the plywood? Thank you!

I think that your design is fine but when using templates it is important to ensure that the paper is fully stretched out and flat to get an accurate mark out. Also, marking with a pencil instead of cutting through the paper will give you a line to sand to to finesse your shape. That top sheer line shape will make your inwales and gunnels incredibly rigid and make your boat also very rigid. Well done with the build so far and I look forward to part 2.

Looking forward to part 2. I hope the weather cooperates. Serious question this time: would it be better to offset where the two pieces of ply meet? Maybe make it a foot shorter and stagger the seam like they do laying bricks. I never see anyone do this, so maybe it just doesn't matter. But I always imagine someone sitting in the middle and the canoe folding in two. Let me know what you think.

Me too! It's not looking very good right now with the weather... Maybe next month! It would be better to stagger the plywood pieces but I don't see it as the weak part in the construction. I did some tests with the middle joint and the joint was way stronger than the single sheet of ply. And when you add the glass fiber on the outside, that will take most of the stress anyway. I plan on putting the glass fiber on the inside as well, mostly for durability (rocks in shoes, fishing gear etc.).

There will! There is just too cold outside to work with epoxy at the moment..
