Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your videos. I too learned at a young age. My aunt taught me when I was 8. All I ever had was the counted cross stitch kits. My aunt would give me easy ones to do. As a I got older I got the bigger, more advanced stuff. I would get several rows into it and realize I messed up or miscounted. It was SO frustrating and discouraging. I quit for a long time. Then I started having health problems and as a result I’m mostly home alone. So to keep my mind busy I cross stitch, diamond paint, and crochet. I found my old cross stitch . I’m in the process of frogging what needs it and correcting the mistakes. The stamped kits are great. I REALLY enjoy them.

Thank you Lora for your helpful video. I played it as I threaded my needle and did my first ever cross stitch. Very well explained with some humor mixed in.

I don't like to do it, BUT, I totally do! That is because I am a product crafter, not a process crafter. I do love all crafts though! I just tend to speed through things so I have fast results. I blame my ADHD.

Whaf needle would you recommend for cross stitching it it is 26 and the needle threader you used the needle small one will not go through the needle
@StitchingWithLora Жыл бұрын
I usually use the needles that come in the kits. I am not sure what size they are. On the 14 ct i sometimes use the size 28 needles (very small) I get them from 123 stitch, They are made by Piecemaker. They are too small for using the needle threader that comes with some of the kits.

My mom taught me to cross stitch in the 70s when I was a kid using those stamped kits & they were terrible. The design might be crooked on the Aida so I gave up on it. A few years later I started doing counted cross stitch & never looked back. These new stamped kits look fantastic & I think I might get one. No counting to make sure you’re in the right spot. Especially now that I am in my 50s & my eyes aren’t what they used to be. 🤓

Lora, do you like the 11 count compared to 14 count? Is it more difficult to work with 3 strands? I have a small one coming tomorrow. I always did counted cross stitch
@StitchingWithLora5 жыл бұрын
I like either one. Recently I was doing 11 ct with 2 threads and then I saw it wasn't covering well so switched to doing 3 with 11 ct and 2 with 14. For me it is harder with 3 strands on 11ct. So, I am at a crossroads for me. Guess I will just have to get use to the 3 again on 11. Thanks for watching.

Do you ever end up with not enough thread? I’m doing one and I’m already short on my first color floss- maybe 30 squares. Am I stitching wrong? Thanks for you your video!
@StitchingWithLora4 жыл бұрын
I haven't gotten close to finishing one of the kits so, I don't know if I would run out of thread or not. I don't think you are doing it wrong. Everyone stitches differently. This is why I stopped buying kits. I am afraid that would happen. I have heard of other flosstubers getting close or running out of thread on kits though. I would see if you can match your thread with a DMC that you are running out of though. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, stay safe and keep stitchin'.

@@StitchingWithLora Thank you!! thank you so much for your response! Yes, that makes sense. I was planning on going to get some matching thread to match it. But now I think I’ll do each of the colors and see if I’ll need more thread for more colors. Thank you for your videos, I’m brand new to cross stitching and you’ve helped my more than I can thank you! I feel like I’m sitting right next to you, learning from you. Have a blessed day!

Not enough thread seems to be the most common complaint about these stamped kits despite some companies saying they give you 30% more etc. So I save left over threads for the next kit if I run short or use a similar color. Most of the time it doesn’t matter. Still fun and relatively cheap
@jonathandpg61153 ай бұрын
it depends how you dtitch. you should not run out if you use the correct number of threads and don't travel too far. however you stitch how you want and buy more if needed

Hi Lora could you help me, I have a printed cross stitch, what do I do when I get to a different symbol, or the different lines that are on the pattern. I am just starting.
@StitchingWithLora3 жыл бұрын
Hi Marlene, for every symbol on the canvas there is a specified color. Those will be in the key or listed in your paper chart. You will simply end your thread on the back side of the canvas. Then pick another symbol that is in the same area where you were stitching. Find the thread # from your key with all the symbols running down the side of your canvas. And stitch using either 3 threads for 11 count fabric, or 2 threads for 14 count. If there is a circle with a number on it you would stitch that whole area with that number. And, cover it as you stitch it. The Circled Number on the canvas that is. When you have completed the entire canvas and all your stitching is is done and the canvas is covered with your X's you will wash the entire project is water and the lines everywhere will disappear. Warning DO NOT wash canvas untill all stitching is complete. Or your pattern will disappear and you won't know where to stitch. Hope this all makes sense. If not I would be happy to explain further. Thanks for watching. Stay safe and keep stitchin"

Hi Lora …I’m new to cross stitch and I have ordered from Joy Sunday as well. My question is, what do all the different symbols mean? For example….I’m seeing circles….Vs…. ////……crosses …..stars. I’m not sure what’s to be done …..someone told me the circles are to be done in French knots ….and all the symbols are to be stitched as the symbol appears…. Please explain…Thanks

I ordered joy Sunday colors are not the same as what the stamp is. What do I do?
@StitchingWithLora4 жыл бұрын
Joy Sunday Kits usually come with the thread on a card with a # above each color. Use the corresponding # on the card of thread to match the # on the stamped fabric. You should also have a legend or key running along the bottom of the fabric as to what # and what symbol to use . Does that make sense. And no the colors in the stamped fabric do not use the same color. It also comes with a printed chart, you can match as well. If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for watching stay safe. and keep stitching.

Please, please tell me why is it you do not explain symbol column, the icons. How do I figure out what they mean as far as what type of stitch to use. Diagonal, backstitch, french nots, X's, ftrnch nots I understand but what about the rest like a horizontal V, half shaded square. How can I find out. Cannot find anyone to explain these and much more. I do understand color coding. Notice the stamped cross stitch pattern your using show symbol icons but you are not explaining. You do go over color coding. Is their a book on cross stitch symbols (icons)? So sorry just frustrated. I've had this cute kit for a month. Anxious to get started Erma 😊😊😊
@StitchingWithLora Жыл бұрын
I don't know where to begin. On the stamped kits each thread color has a symbol. Those symbols don't mean they are different stitches. Unless, you might be doing a Joy Sunday kit. They use a flat line for back stitching, a circle for French knots, and a different one for 1/2 cross stitch. All the other symbols that are lined up next to the numbers on the right hand side are going to correspond to the symbol on the pattern and you would use that symbol for say # 1 or whatever symbol you see on the pattern. On most kits I get that are not either SPRING Company or Joy Sunday you will only be doing just regular Cross Stitch "X". If you have the other 2 Companies then they will designate what that stitch is suppose to be and show you on a page included in the kit. Hope this all makes sense. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. Thanks for watching.

@StitchingWithLora Hi Lora, it finally clicked to my brain. The actual stitch type are printed on the aida. Just now recognizing stitches and have gone to many videos on how to do these Stitches. Right now I'm enjoying looking through my dmc color chart book to select different colors I want to make some changes. Wanted to ask is it a rule that you haveq to use 3 strands for 11ct aida. Won't it look to bulky? If you could suggest a stamped kit where the colors on pattern are the same on floss card. My kit is a Maydear and they do not match. Looking forward to more of your videos. 😊 Erma
@ermaredding7506 Жыл бұрын
@StitchingWithLora Hi Lora, You answered my question regarding stamped kit symbols. I thought I understood the symbols. This is a Maydear kit are you familiar with this company? I see that backstitch symbol and what color to use. ALL the shaded squares are full cross stitch. Looking at the legend symbols shows red star, V shape in horizontal and some show V vertical left and and vertical right both different colors. There are many other symbols. I looked at the stamped aida and it is printed with these symbols. Lots of shaded squares. I did look up the symbols and understood what some of the stitches are and they do match what's printed on aida. So my same question is do I need to stitch the type of stitch printed on the 11ct aida? So confusing. The cross stitching group I belong to are telling me that they are full cross stitch. If that is true why is the aida printed with all these different stitches to use? Just want it to look right. Note: if I look at the instructions that comes on a separate sheet it does explain under COUNTED cross stitch the stitches to be used are 1/2, 1/4 and full stitches. I see nothing on the printed aida symbol showing these Stitches except the full shaded squares for full X's. I hope this all makes since. How do you think this project should be done. Is Maydear different than other stamped kits? Sorry, so many questions. Thank you for reading all of this. Erma
