Twisting wires seemed like it would be super easy but it was definitely a learning experience when I built my S&G. It was nice seeing you cover it in detail in this video. I think it will be very helpful to people struggling with this task.

One of the reasons I wanted Bill to help with this build is to have someone who doesn't have experience helps me see what the average first-time builder has trouble with. I hope his learning helps other people learn as well.

I am writing this message from Turkey. I am currently in the process of making a petrel play.

Are you building this with just the cardboard box laid across two sawhorses? I was expecting that setting up a large flat work surface would be one of the challenges in building one of these kits.

I saw this as well. I think if I was going to make a lot of boats like this it would matter having a set station and places to put things when you are working. The other thing about this is that of all things a boat needs is it will need to be worked on over time. If all you need is two sawhorses.....that makes a lot of sense.

A firm flat surface will be easier to work on. I have plenty available to me. I'm doing it on the cardboard here to show that you don't need a well equipped workshop to get the job done.

Have you ever tried the wireless method with frog tape? Seems like it would be easier in some ways. Just wondering about your experience.

I will use masking tape at times, but in some places you need to pull the panels quite hard to get them tight. You just can't do that with tape.

I was very sad that skeg was not included in the plans.

I understand. I wanted to keep the Petrel Play simple to build. I have paddled my prototype for years without a skeg and don't feel it needs one. It makes construction simpler if you don't install the skeg. I will be installing the skeg in this build because I think it is worthwhile for folks to see how it is done, but it isn't necessary.
