Oh Diane, this is delightful! Honestly, just can't believe how relaxing it is to sit and watch you sketch, paint, and hear you talk. You have such a gift of art and storytelling. You bring hope, faith, light, goodness, and happiness to the world. These happy little dragonflies are truly beautiful. Thank you for introducing us to the artist you mentioned. I hadn't heard of him but will definitely check out his work. I always think it's wonderful when an artist mentions another artist's work that they admire because it says so much about them, and in this case you! You let your light shine and allow other's light to shine right along with you. Your dragonflies are happy and unique and I honestly think the prettiest I have ever seen! Happy New Year to you and to all of you reading this.

Thank you for letting us know how not to be messy but really there’s no getting away from it 🤷🏻♀️that’s the fun of it not specially cleaning up 😉 🙏🏽🙋🏻♀️👍🏽Mia

Oh thank you Diane, I just painted these lovelies this morning, Dragonflies have been a symbol of mine since 2001 when I started my first salon after 9/11 , of course everyone thought I was crazy. My husband passed away and again I had to start a new, and I did however Today my goal is to leave the hair dressing industry since COVID has changed the minds of humans and their kindness to a degree and start a new beginning again with my new husband and with my passion of painting. I could spend hours a day with pigment and never get bored. I am a bit of a hermit as I said so I adore being in my own environment much like a little hobbit. This tutorial was so freeing for me, is their a place we can post our work so you can see.? Happy New year and many blessings and peace to come for all and HOPE for brighter days a head.

Hi Diana and thanks so much for your lovely comment. I hope that my videos will be helpful for you as you pursue your art - I think we have a lot in common as not only do I find painting a completely absorbing and helpful occupation, but I also prefer the peace and quiet of the countryside, and the company of animals to the wildness of the general population of people. Interesting that you feel people have changed since Covid and not for the better: I hope and pray that enough people have realised it's an opportunity to recalibrate their lives in a positive way, as you are doing and as we also have done. If not now, then when, eh? If you want to share your work so I can see it, you can put it on my facebook page Diane Antone Studio, or if you don't do facebook there is Instagram in my name too, just tag me by putting @dianeantonestudio in your post and I'll be notified and see it! Talking about palettes, I am trying something that I haven’t seen before: ceramic olive or appetizer plates. Mine are 14 inches long by 4 inches wide. I use your little round ceramic dishes to put my paint blob (elegant word) on and then use the long skinny dishes for mixing. I have two uses which I really love them for: 1. For a small or limited pallet painting, I can mix all of the colors on one plate, and it helps me keep the colors for that piece in one place until I am sure no further changes are needed, or 2: For single or two or three etc. color mixes you can put one color on each end and middle etc. and then make different blends as you move down the plate. Of course I save the different colored ones for quite a while and can use on multiple paintings. Just my way that I thought that I would share! Thank you for your wonderful teaching!!
@DianeAntoneStudio2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this very interesting comment Donna. I'm glad you're finding the little dishes helpful and the idea of using a rectangular plate for mixing is very good. I tend to use my large butcher's tray for that purpose, and stand the little dishes on the tray, but it's not always efficient. I might have a rummage in my china cupboard and see if I have something rectangular and long that I could use instead!

Organised chaos is probably my motto. Yesterday we spent most of the day reorganising the studio - now the kittens are big enough to manage without a crate for their night-time sleeps so we got that out of the way, and had a massive tidy-up and clean-up. Now it's reorganised chaos!!

Thanks for this great video. I gave it a go today, twice, and noticed something interesting. When I applied the watercolour pencil to the wet edges of whatever I was applying it to, the wet paint did a quite vigorous dash away from the pencil. As if it shuddered in horror! It greatly affected where the paint ended up which was not entirely where I had intended. It was quite interesting to watch. On another note, as you mention in the video, it's surprising how little paint one needs to do this. I quite like the technique and will continue to practice it. Thanks again for the inspiration and instruction.
@DianeAntoneStudio2 жыл бұрын
Hi Valerie! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and commenting - interesting to hear about what you observed. There must be some repulsion between the water and the material the pencil is made of, or the paint and the pencil. I hadn't noticed that but I'll look more carefully next time I use the pencil in water! Glad you enjoyed the video and have fun experimenting! xxx
