Through this stop motion video I wanted to show how important it is to learn to be able to open yourself up and let the truest version of yourself show and not hide that out of fear, but to be able to find a balance between letting the parts of your past and the negative emotions and memories holding you back go but to hold onto the parts of your past and yourself - light and dark - that are important in who are you and who you have become.
To not let it consume you - to allow it to flow in and out and have trust in that you are able to control it. I used bits and pieces that represent meaningful things to me.
I used images of shells and birds and leaves and broken colourful glass and butterflies and star patterns for the light side - to represent freedom, positivity, meaning, connection with nature and life, memories that are valued, hope, energy and creativity.
I used dark, lifeless symbols on the other side like plastic and dead leaves and nails and dark broken glass to symbolize loss, pain, emptiness, hopelessness and confusion.
Both sides come out of the girl, float up to meet in the middle above her head - connecting the light and dark, showing her coming to terms with who she is and showing that to the world.
And then, once she has let go and become connected within herself, she stitches herself back together, becoming whole again.
