I had the pleasure of buying my HQ 510 from Rob at Stitchn’ Heaven in April. I love the machine, I am a fairly new quilter, and the machine is easy to use and very straightforward. My straight stitch machine does the same thing - needle up after cutting thread (even though it’s set for needle down) and in 14 years, I never noticed! 😂

Hi Rob ..is this machine the same as the Janome 1600p...or the hd9 I have the 1600p which I have on a frame ..it's a great machine to have on a frame

What size bobbin

I believe it is considered the L class - uses metal bobbins, I do not like to use prewound bobbins period, so I just wind my own. The benefit of the separate bobbin winding motor on the machine. You can wind and sew at the same time!

What problem do you get with pre wound bobbins

I don’t quilt, I make bags. I’m looking for something that will sew a very straight stitch and will sew canvas and leather.

I was able to try this out today at a local quilt shop. Threading the machine was a nightmare, in my opinion. But thanks for your review. Other than the threading, it seemed like a nice machine.
