Granddaughter keeps complaining I buy too much do we really need it? Well she just experience her first disaster a tropical storm the day before it hit everyone showed up at her job (Home Depot) to buy supplies, sandbags, buckets, mops, flashlights, batteries, water etc.... they ran out in a few hours, the customers were VERY upset, every store in town ran out of the same thing and the grocery stores were wipe out..... she just smile and felt relieved that I was fully prepared for power outage, food and supplies.... now word is coming out don't drink the water may be contaminated with E. coli ... no worries there I filled up our 7 gallon water storage containers before the storm hit (four) at a water dispenser machine (cheaper than buying water bottles) we been drinking them since it started and we have water storage in our long term water barrel and not counting a way to filter the water.... Granddaughter is not complaining about me no more........she understands now the stores only carried so much regardless they can have pellets of that product but when they show up by the hundreds they will ran out...........

They say that most grocery stores have about three days worth of supplies but in reality when something happens like a hurricane or tropical storm that three-day supply that you say they have will last just a few hours. You do well in having extra supplies. Once there is a catastrophe by the time you make it to the store it will be all gone. Also if there are any desperate people it will not be pleasant to be in that area.

I’m poor but any money I can come up with I buy vegetables and fresh beef right from the farmer and pressure can beef soups / chicken soups/ vegetables/ milk/ butter… anything I can pressure or water bath can I do… I try to stay away from packaged and can food from the store … it’s just awful ingredients! Amazing how much food security you can create with a pressure canner and save $ and have good quality food ! I vacuum seal dry stuff in canning jars and what I can’t can it freeze that’s what I’m stuck buying … it’s super depressing tho knowing you need to buy in bulk and get stuff canned and stored but no money to do it 🤦🏼‍♀️

My husband drinks soda. He buys 1lt or 16 Oz bottles. I rinse them, put them upside down in a paper bag w/handles and hang it to dry and forget about it. Next time I go shopping I buy a 50lb bag of rice. I portion it out into the bottles and shelve it. Around 40 16 Oz bottles, I think. It’s a nice portion size, about 2cups, to cook with or to give away w/out exposing the extent of your stores.

I get man6 of the same things, I’ve already put up extra canned soup for the winter, even thought I like making my own with less sodium if can.. one suggestion, cornbread normally requires egg and milk, there are packages that require just water, which if don’t have eggs and milk is great to have. Same with instant mashed potatoes, there are some that say just add water..I also put up Almond milk in cartons(they are in the bottle juice section. I cook with it. It doesn’t have to be put in fridge until it’s opened. Right. Ow the Best Buy date is April 29 ,2024. It’s not as good as milk but good to have when run out of milk and I like better than powdered . Good preps I have the cans of turkey too for thanksgiving and the cans behind you and a lot of Walmart chicken . Have a good day

@GreyManPrepping

Great tip! I discussed this topic about a year or so ago as well. In regards to water, some folks stock bottled water, or have water storage containers. I have a mix. I'm getting ready to switch to 5-gallon jugs of water. I found a stand that holds I think 6 which would be 30 gallons. It's suggested that you have a gallon of drinkable water per day per person. I personally would also suggest having a way to purify water, in case there is a prolonged emergency.

Spam is popular in our pantry inventory we like the flavored ones like Tocino, Bacon, Hickory, Maple, ect.. some of those have about 30 to 40% less sodium & a lower fat content and in my opinion has much better flavor. Amazon recently had several types of the flavored Spam on sale at about $2.60 so we recently added 3 more cases. Good calorie value at over 1000 calories per can..

We also got a pasta maker cause i knew that my kids love pasta i didn't want to run out. But with the cloth diapers do your research on them there are so many of them. I've been noticing that every time i go to the store here in Utah Walmart has been more expensive even winco now 7 items are like 60 dollars. So with my garden this year I'm making spaghetti sauce an pizza sauce. I've been canning as much as possible so that i can feed my family. My son works at a large chain grocery store gets loads five days a week, most stores are the same.... GAS stations TWO a day, in a disaster those trucks are not going to come in until everything is clear and safe to roll them out again that's why these store shelf are empty for awhile, same with Gas stations.... stores do carry a lot but when people show up by the hundreds they wipe out the store in a few hours.....the sad thing about it is the customers are lashing out on the workers for bare shelfs..... and the crazy thing about them is they are looking for basic items "Flashlights, batteries, canned and dry goods that are shelf stable" something they SHOULD HAVE I'm on a fixed income (low) and I have the BASICS disabled and prepping channel shows how she manage to get many of her supplies for free

I enjoyed the video, it gave me more ideas to add to what I have now. If you have a 5 quarter tree (Dollar Tree) nearby, check to see if they have the 1 pound bags of Himalayan pink salt. I found some a few times hidden on the bottom shelf and bought every one of them. 13 total in 1 haul, 5 previously 10 the first time I found them, yet I still add more when I see them. Wallyworld wants $5-8+ for a 1 pound bag almost identical to what I got a DT. The first few hauls were $1 each, others were 1.25 each when the switched to higher prices. I just drop them into a food grade bucket as is and snap the lid on.

Just keep in mind that these "wet' canned goods are for short-term storage. You really should use them within two years to get the best flavor and texture. And you must protect those cans from freezing temperatures during winter power outages. If the wet food inside those cans freezes, the food with expand as it freezes and burst the seams of the cans. A major downside to wet canned foods is that when it is time to rotate/replace those foods you will not know if replacements will be available or at a price you can afford. And it is expensive to rotate those canned goods every two years or so. If the wet canned food is allowed to get too old and it spoils or develops an odd color, texture or flavor to the point that no one will eat it, then that is money wasted. Those paper sacks and pasteboard boxes of dry foods such as flour and dry pasta are not packaged for long-term storage either. High humidity or leaky ceilings in the pantry can cause the dry food to mildew. The microscopic eggs of grain-eating insects can hatch out in some of the dry food and gnaw their way into those paper bags and pasteboard boxes. These dry foods would need to be repackaged for long-term storage, right after purchase, to get the longest shelf life and prevent insect damage. For that you need Mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. If you want to buy your emergency food just once and know it can store for 20 years and it will not be harmed by freezing temperatures, then you want dry foods that are packaged for long-term storage. Imagine if you could gradually accumulate a year's worth of emergency food storage, store it properly and forget about it until you needed it in an emergency or until the food had reached the end of its shelf life (in 20 or so years). You would save yourself the repeated cost of having to rotate the food every two years. The downside to dry food storage is you may need to store enough clean drinking water for rehydrating and cooking those dry foods in the aftermath of a disaster. The least expensive source of #10 cans of basic dry foods -- for those living in the U.S. -- is to buy from the LDS Home Storage Centers. There is even an online Home Storage Center where you can place an order to have the food delivered at modest delivery cost to your home. The prices listed are for six #10 cans of a food. The website for the online store is www.providentliving.org.

Get a ton of oats from southern states dont get it with the blue additives thats for horses but will killl people. Grind oats thrn grind again at finer cut make same as QuKer oats for pennies. Gray, I always like your pantry halls. I couldn't help but laugh. I bought the same case of pasta. You probably know, but they're switching to 12oz and not the pound. There macaroni 2lb is a good price too. I just started buying a 20lb bag of rice every week instead of once a month. I wish I could afford Keystone, but I still stock meats. I will have to look at that can chicken from Aldi. If it has the old top, I'll spend the extra 29 cents a can to have that type. I usually get the 4pk at Walmart for $9.99 and 4 a month. I'm still building not only my working pantry of a year to two years. But I'm trying to build my deep storage to twice my working pantry. With some deep storage off-site.
