Thanks for upload! My ex used to live on King Alfred St just off Bakewell and we would go to Dunkirk Tavern on Fridays. Bought back memories and I haven't set foot in Stockbrook area for 15 years!

What a shame. I actually went to Roebuck Inn few times and I recall it was very fine building. I don't live in Derby anymore (I live in Tamworth, my hometown) I might pop in Derby sometime next month.

Glad you enjoyed my drive around this area. Looks like the Dunkirk Tavern is still going. By the way if you have not been around here for some time then you may not know that the Roebuck Inn (corner of Amy Street and Stockbrook Road) was demolished in 2008. Its been replaced with three three storey apartments with a shop on the ground floor. You can see these at 6:33 on the right side. The war memorial that was on this pub was fitted into the wall of the new building and rededicated.

Also 0:41 you may have noticed that the former Trent Garage on Uttoxeter New Road is not there. The buildings here were only demolished in the last couple of months. This means you can now actually see St Lukes church as you approach Mercian Way roundabout because those buildings used to hide it.

Because of the war my family lived in Derby, my Dad was Ordnance Survey and had to move from Southampton for the duration. my Mother hated Derby but I spent some time there, several years. It was an interesting place, I didn't dislike it but I've since been back and I'm horrified how things have changed *for the worse*. It seems to have lost most of it's history and become just a place to shop, yes I remember "Mad Harry" at Cockpit hill and the Morledge market, the superb art deco bus station, the train station is an abomination I thought. All the character has gone, its sad. All the cinema's have gone and whatever happened to Sanderson and Holmes, I used to look at the Rolls Royce cars priced at over £5000 and dream. PS Are you in any way related to the store "Savages" Andy? My older brother worked there for a while before he went into the Army

What a difference I hardly recognized the place, my late Mums' sister live in Upper Boundary Road, I believe there was a cinema along there. I attended St Luke' church for quite a number of years, till I moved to Spondon, but the whole life has been ripped out of the Derby I once knew, not only in the area you have just visited but the old town centre and other parts of Derby it's a crying shame the people at the top were allowed to do this destruction of what was once upon a time a wonderful borough town, I hate it now and I would never go back except to visit my family once a year.

Yes IC Discounts at 06:29 was the former Cosmopolitan Cinema. Yes lots of stuff vanished in the 60s/70s.
