The king march anticipating Zugzwang was as majestic as it was dirty. I find this positional strategic wizardry even more entertaining and insightful than the finest tactical sequences. That's what so great about these tournaments and your commentary of course.

That Nd6 idea with the pawns on e5 and c5 closes the center and allows black to carry out a kingside pawn storm similar to the King’s Indian Defense. The ending was nice with Stockfish restraining white’s knight from any movement for a single pawn and doing a king march to out stretch white’s passive defenders.

Brilliant from the fish and great from you Josip. I think i can try this one at the club next week. Thank you sir.

Mikhail Tal were playing similar lines in Benoni with black pieces.

No doubt ...b6 is a novelty in that particular variation but even this humble 1800 player has used it. What's instructive is the ...Ne8/ ...Ne5 2.Nxe5 dxe5 followed by ...Nd6 maneuver to initiate chances Q-side. Very neat stuff. Thanks for providing this!

Just a beautiful "standard" SF game!!! Yes, the Pawns to A6 and B6 where very pre-emptive moves/preparation that opened up white's offense and defense like a can of cat food. Loved the king walk into attack, as well.

SF literally converted the benoni into some benko gambit at the middle game

I love watching these engine games. They think so far outside the box because they don't even realize there is a box.

Would be nice if Modern Benoni still will be playable, at least on club level. In my youth I managed to beat a few +2000 rated with that dynamic opening. ❤️👍

what if instead of trading on e5 the horse white goes for Nd2 following f4 straight away ?

There is this plan for black with g5 I think it is the main idea for black to keep a grip on dark squares

Computer chess is more interesting and instructive than human chess at this point

It's interesting to watch yeah, but realistically it's not instructive as you can never analyze the millions of lines and variations like the fish and other engines

Of course Computers are going to be more precise and more creative than humans they’re programmed to be super efficient

So does Stockfish invent the Benoni Defense all on its own or did you set up the opening first and then let the computer start play at a certain point? If so, then when did the computer start thinking on its own?

I would assume the position before the novelty was chosen as the tabiya for the match.
