Uve forgotten engines play 0.1sec per move these days reducing them to around 2500 elo. If SF17 had half a second to think about the position it would have seen this obvious stalemate.

Stockfish's algorithm probably discarded possibility of 3 pieces sacrifice in a row, so didn't investigate what comes after that. Big mistake, Leela looked also what happens in that branch.

Again a struggle in a blockaded position for the fish. Brilliant desperadoes from Leela, There is a game from the 1980’s where the English Grandmaster Dr. John Nunn sacrificed several pieces in a row for stalemate. Thanks Josip.

Wow that was an incredible Self stalemate idea from LC0 I guess Leela must’ve felt Stockfish was closing in with a checkmate with some kind of discovered check and attack with Stockfish Queen on f7 and Bg7 ? Incredible giving up 3 major pieces to gain stalemate maybe it’s good that other engines can compete well vs the fish I guess it remains to be seen if Stockfish will eventually prevail and be the dominant engine overall Thanks Josip

OMG!!!! at Nxb5, my sf says its +4.0 evaluation and after RXC6 🔥! by leela it goes upto +8.0 and suddenly drops to +0.0😱!!! Later i analyse carefully, theres other lines for sf to maintain evaluation +3.0, but sf17 played NB5??, and evaluation drops down to +1.0 leading to only line QXf7, but heres too sf17 chooses Bxg7 which comes to 0.0 evalu.! Overall conclusion is that sf17 blunders NXB5 because of Time pressure or sf17 doesnt go into that much depth to see Only one line in Rxc6 leading to draw among the million lines!!!

What a foolish comment. They find it instantly because you're checkmated. You have to start giving up material not to lose the game instantly. A human would start throwing away their pieces to try to flag the opponent as well. The actual Brilliancy is Bg7 followed by Rxc6, giving up the F pawn for what looks like a hopeless position, and seeing this stalemate trick far in advance during a rapid event with little time on the clock. Utter insanity, no human would find this in a billion years.

I analyzed the game on depth 30, backward. According to stockfish, Leela played 3 inaccurate moves: 7... Qxe5?! Stockfish didn't like that move because of 8. Ne2 which seems completely alien 😂 considering that it played c3 in the game to stop Leela from taking the rook in the corner. However, SF was setting a trap for the queen because after Qxe1, Bd4, Qxa2, and Nec3 Queen has nowhere else left to go and has to take out the knight on b1, so actually the best move would have been Qxd4 after it took the rook... This is crazy because the queen got a lot of compensation for itself in that line: 2 pawns, 1 rook, and a knight, but SF says it's completely winning +3.78 eval after that??? Lol. I'm 99% sure that this game came down to time management because SF played All the Right moves. 32. h4! Sealed the deal. SF won 100% of its games from this position. Also I think that the tuning for this 10min+3sec and even on TCEC 30min+3sec is a tad on the weaker side as far as time management.
