Stockport canal special - Gorton Aqueduct

So something different for everyone today. We take a break from the Manchester, Bolton and Bury canal to visit the Stockport Branch canal and give a hand to the Waterways Recovery Group on their Work Party.

I was brought up close to there, in Weaver St, I remember this in water, there were sunken boats in the winding hole just a couple of hundred yards up at Hugans, and in the arm at Gorton tank, watched them being dredged out when they filled the canal in. Ironicaly, they dredged out all the silt and rubbish, ( to a very good standard) before filling the canal in. I was also one of the original members of WRG north west. and PFCS, As a child i used to play in the railway yard when it closed down, we used to ride on the turntable, we also used to make bonfires with the blueprint drawings that were all just abandoned, and fish in the mill ponds just behind where you filmed this
