The operative word being ‘was’ iconic and yet when the powers that be lord stockport up they always describe the viaduct as stockports centre piece and yet it’s been unkempt for decades and now they’ve gone and stuck an ugly ‘Tower Block’ in front of it.

Plans are to build the Metrolink to Stockport (whether it stops next to the bus station, only time will tell) but if it is next to it, it technically would be an interchange. Same as in Rochdale, Manchester Shudehill, Eccles and Bury

I’ve not used many metro links to be honest so don’t know much about other stations.

It's being made metro ready, I think the easiest link would be from the existing station at East Didsbury which is just outside Heaton Mersey, it would probably follow the river.

Metro link to Stockport, unfortunately is just a dream. Andy Burnham promised metro to Stockport 10 years ago. Stockport council voted against it numerous times.

@@Stockybloke Fingers crossed that Stockport gets a tram link. The tram could go up the M60 from the existing line (that crosses into the Manchester Airport Line via Wythenshawe) and link into the Pyramid. That way it would not affect houses on other possible routes.

Hi Jonny Another subscriber has said the same thing. I was one of the people involved in the last cleanup back in the 80’s. They started with a chemical substance to clean the brickwork, but that was taking to long. So they tried sandblasting and that was much quicker, however they never sealed the brickwork after and that why it back to the colour it is now.

Definitely a monstrosity Stocky. This is "so called" progression. Will be an absolute eyesore compared to some of the old stunning buildings in Stockport. 😖

@@Stockybloke That's now the station, the bus station, St Peters Square and Redrock all with added greenery I know it's hard for many to accept but the council seem to be getting things right.
