Great video John! Just to clarify, for SmartThings, those gray buttons in the main device are used for adding the child devices you need, not for reporting the status of the devices.

Hay John, GREAT VIDEO! Was interested in linking my old Honeywell wired alarm system to my Hubitat home security monitor. Before seeing your video I installed the Konnected alarm 2 panel $99 (sale price) along with their interface panel $29. You have two options, 1. Disconnect your old wired alarm completely and attach the old zone wires to the Alarm 2 module and control from your phone OR 2. add the interface module with the Alarm 2 module ( leaving your old alarm in tack wirh your old keypads) and have the best of both worlds . You can still use your old keypad AND/OR use Hubitat or Smartthings to control your alarm from your phone . Its worked seemlessly. The modules are very small but not as tiny as the one you show installing. Love your channel ( saw you on the last Hubitat live too) Stay well!

MIND READER!! I was literally debating (in my mind) last night on what would be the simplest and most cost effective way to integrate my fire alarm system and NVR sensor inputs into Smartthings. This may have the 'brains' to do the trick. Thank you!... Now where's that followup video you promised? It's already been an hour!! :)

Another great video John! I was going to remove my old system and move the HE hub to this location (more centralized location). Plans are changing a bit :)

I wish my house was already wired for an alarm to try this. I like that we can get mostly wireless alarms like the Ring, SimplySafe, etc, but I hate having to buy those watch batteries and replace those every 6 months to a year. And none of the battery sensors that I've seen screw in; they all use adhesive tape. That stuff never works right especially for the magnet slide. If the door swings to hard I've gotten them caught in the door because they shifted. Rant over: Great video! Can't wait to see what else you use those for. What can I use those for??? I'll have to do some brainstorming. Thx Cheers

Very nice John. I have an old DCS 1500 panel. We have had many windows replaced so some zones are no longer working but I have two door, one window, and a motion still functional that I do want to get up and running. Sounds like I may be able to get away with just two of these. Awesome.

Thanks for the great video John. I have a defunct wired alarm system and a Hubitat so... my to-do list just got a little longer.

Thank you! I have a Radionics (Bosch) D-9412 fire /security system installed in my home. I installed it back in 1997 and ran over 74,000’ of wire during installation. I have over 240 separate points of protection / 38 photoelectric smoke heads (2-wire using 8 zones) and 12 alpha keypads. Programming in 2023 is virtually impossible! Remote programming was never all that reliable and requires 16-bit Windows O/S and an original Hayes 2400 baud modem My field programmer is screwed with acidic leakage as I left the “C” batteries installed for 15 years. LOL so… how do I add enhancements? I spent over $40k on parts and wire for the installation and really want to make use of the wiring and devices in the home. This looks ideal! Thanks!

That's quite the setup. You should also look into Konnected website : tbiu.io/LxihWipO

I’m so happy to come across this video, but may have missed some previous ones. I’m looking to convert my old wired home alarm system that was one of those monthly services like adt used to install back in the day with a control panel, power back up, smoke alarm that would ring the fire department or police department from a central monitoring service. I’m looking to update it, as I still have all the existing wiring, keypads, and alarm panel . I’m pretty good at DIY projects, but don’t know what system to invest in as Ring seems to not have the best reviews and am looking for some thing that is open source so I can add zones as needed as well as motion, sensors, and security cameras. Not sure what Hubitat is. I’m willing to donate to your page in order for guidance. Looks like this was from three years ago and not sure if anyone has updated any links or new tech

If you don't have any other Z-wave based hardware (most notably a Z-wave hub), your best bet is Konnected - here is a link to their website : tbiu.io/LxihWipO

I still see a Wink hub there on the desk, time to take that thing to the range and split it into 10 pieces.

Hello! I have DSC PC1616, unfortunately the system is armed and can’t be disarmed. I don’t have a master code. I still want to use wired pieces from the system, but replace it with something smart, that I can self-monitor from app. What solutions can you recommend? Really appreciate your help. Thanks

Can you connect two reed switchs (for example two window sensors) to this zwave universal sensor to make them wireless? I'm not sure if you can connect one of them or two. In case of two, how would be the connection?

Could you test this device? Zooz Z-Wave Plus S2 MultiRelay ZEN16 It's a multi use device that has 2-15 amp and 1- 20Amp dry contacts. So you can check status and control garage doors, (close an open door) It has a contact buss bar built in.

I've been doing testing with it, but have yet to bring it together into a script. I'm hoping it comes together as you suggest.

Hi John, great video!!!! Do you know if I can use it with Ring Alarm Security System?
@DIYSmartHomeGuy13 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I don't know the answer. These are Z-Wave, but will probably require custom drivers.
@saw74393 жыл бұрын
My concern would be for the cost of this device why not just replace your hardwired contacts or devices with a wireless device that does the same job with less trouble
@DIYSmartHomeGuy13 жыл бұрын
Yup - that's an option. Also there is the Konnected security panel. Just one way to skin the cat.

This cool and all but $20 per sensor. That is not a great deal considering your average home probably has 12-18 sensors not included fire. Great video though, thanks and keep them coming.

What would be a good deal? 120$ each going with a monitored alarm company?
