The game itself? No real hate, aside from grenade spam and slow DLC. The hate was really just the era. The lack of weapon variety (and again, slow DLC) made it get stale a little too quickly. Going back and playing is so refreshing though. Such a polished game.

I 100% understand why he thought it wouldn’t work. By all accounts, it SHOULDN’T have worked. At this point in gaming history, modern shooters were THE moneymakers. Set your shooter in present day or there about and that was a fair bet. How many people, from creators to pundits to players themselves were shouting to the high heavens that the “historical” shooter was a dead genre. Doing a historical shooter in 2016 was an ENORMOUS risk. Setting the shooter in a war that was basically untouched by AAA game devs was an even more insane risk. WWII would have been a safer option, but DICE and EA decided to take that frankly stupid risk. And it paid off. By rights, BF1 should have failed. The fact it wasn’t a failure was a shock. The fact that it wasn’t just not a failure, but considered to be one of (if not the) best Battlefield of all time is nothing short of a miracle. It shows what’s possible when you take a determination to break the mold and combine it with ferocious passion.

You should check out the BF1 Modding Nexus and the Frosty Mod Manager. BF1 Modding is still in a fairly primitive state tech-wise, but it's still advancing and what the community has done with the tech we have is pretty impressive. You've got simple stuff like the Palm Rest Remover for Marksman rifles, and really huge and complex stuff like Battlefield 1914 that redoes all the playermodels to be early-war and even replaces the Americans with Canadians.

I grew up with Bad Company 1 and 2, missed out on BF3 and the beginning of 4. This was the first one I was there with start to finish. I loved every minute of it. Then going to BF5, I at least had fun with my friends but on my own it just felt like something was missing. It didn't feel like any love was put into the game, still enjoyed playing it, shitty marketing aside. Then 2042 just crushed me. I'm gonna go back and play this amazing game now. I just hope I can get a match of Frontlines, like the good old days

such a great game, shattered that i can't find a breakthrough lobby in my region (also shattered that the lobby finder doesn't work all that well). best part... undecided. indirect fire using a stationary cannon and getting a tank kill from across the map is a highlight for me. favourite memory would be shortly after release, i went to a friends place and played on their beast of a PC, the flamethrower tank looked spectacular, got such a rush from it! still looks great, you just don't get a full crew as often and you get wiped out fast.

This was the first online game I played. Reaching level 99 on xbox and 97 on PS4, I finally called it quits a few months ago. This is the best game ever. Many people didn't like the sniper bullet 'drop off'. Well, lol no one cares for the little sniper that has a lazer shooter in the background. BF moments are too numerous to sum up here. This video basically sums up why I after so many thousands of hours playing BF2, BF3, BF4 and BC1/2 stopped playing BF. Getting instantly sniped constantly just ruined the gameplay for me. When the massive amount of cheaters also entered the lobbies, only few weeks after the launch, this game was pretty much dead. Still play BF4 though and after soon 10 years it still have great gameplay and graphics.
