I had to go to Hanley yesterday, only because I needed something out of B&M, how depressing is it now, my god, no one speaks English, druggies everywhere, tried get into the museum, that’s shut on a Monday for some reason 🤷🏻, i to know about the false promises regarding the now overgrown wasteland and closed down premises and the council wonder why people don’t trust a word they say, another good video DJM. 👏👏

It's very sad to see Hanley turning into the horrible place it has become. Years ago i was up there every Saturday night and it was packed and a brilliant night out. I don't know how the shops survive in the potteries centre.

I left Hanley in the early eighties, and could so where it was heading then. Don’t get me wrong, I had some great nights out in Hanley, The Place, The Roman Candle, Leadbellies, Chico’s and obviously all those great bands who played the Vicci Hall. Have just returned to Stoke-on- Trent after nearly 40 years away. Can’t say I’m that surprised at what I have found here. It was already declining then, and despite the odd council effort to improve the the place, they were all either badly thought out and often made things worse, or they were never followed through on, leaving large areas of wasteland. I would love to think Stoke-on-Trent could be a great city again, but it’s too far gone, and why would anyone want to invest here?

I’m afraid it’s had it now especially has we now have a council who is practically declaring itself bankrupt more or less next year.

@@DJMtv1938 It’ s ironic that a city that is supposed to be levelling up is actually being flushed down the toilet. Maybe that was their (and by their I mean people who have right wing agendas, but are really good at bullshitting on the tv), aim all along was to alienate the poorer cities and let them destroy them selves so they are no longer a blot on England’s Green and Pleasant land!

I lived in Etruria for over 20 years. Great location for socialising in Hanley but over the years as it quickly went downhill, friends and work colleagues would rather spend money on train fare to Chester, Shrewsbury, Birmingham, or Derby. I now live in Derby, a city of similar size to Stoke-on-Trent but vastly different shopping/leisure/socialising experience. The shopping centre ( called Derbion) is not just full of shops, it has many restaurants and fast food outlets plus bowling, cinema and adventure golf. You could spend most of a day just in there. Sure Derby does have empty shops dotted about but not entire streets with nothing open. Do the council leaders of S-o-T ever visit other successful thriving cities to see what can be done?

Yep I’m a regular visitor to derby and the shopping centre certainly has everything you need I used to like visiting the trendz bike shop but sadly it was gone on my last visit.

I used to like the food court at the top of the Potteries SC. Once a month at the end of the month I would find an excuse to go to the company HQ and I would have an extra long dinner hour in Hanley and perhaps buy a little treat or something. That was back in the 90s though. The last time I was regularly travelling that way was in the early 2010's for a few months.

I used to love going the French horn pub on a Saturday afternoon and sitting outside on a nice day and watching the people shopping at the outdoor market across the road.

@@DJMtv1938 You are going to laugh but I know the pub but I never ever went in. I will confess that as a teen I stopped going to Hanley for clothes. I preferred to go Manchester on the train. I am lead to believe that Stoke station is now busy Saturday morning with Stokees going to Manchester. It is a shame. But it is happening to shopping centres across the West; it isn't just Hanley / Stoke. Newcastle is just as bad. The latter tried to compete with Hanley instead of perhaps trying to be a North Staffordshire Nantwich. We live in interesting times.

Stoke on Trent people are the best in the country and they deserve a better city centre than that.Hanley is very poor. They can start by making the car parking alot cheaper. I always park in the Potteries Centre and for what Hanley has to offer it is way too expensive. Festival Park is just a mile from Hanley and the parking is free

What a fantastic shopping centre Hanley was back in the 70s and 80s. Now its a rubbish strewn, graffiti covered dump full of migrants and empty shops. We went there a few weeks ago and for the 1st time ever, my wife didn't feel safe. I heard from a couple of friends who had teenage children attacked there during the daytime. 1 had a son beaten and robbed of his money and phone and another had her daughter chased in to a shop for refuge. Both times the groups of attackers were possibly from the local migrant hotel from the descriptions given by the teenagers.

I’m from stoke I love my city but I hate what has happened to it my channel is to show the decline of the last 30+ years to 1 record history and hopefully be able to show these videos to future generations when we hopefully live in better times. And 2 to shame the people who have made the mess of this city. You will never hear me knocking the true people of stoke. I want better for them and if this channel embarrasses the right people at the top and forces change and a better environment for the people of this city then I will be happy and then will no longer need to do these videos. 👍has for the title slum tours you have to understand how KZbin works if I just put longton,Hanley, burlslem then KZbin does not push the video out for some reason so it’s all about the stats with the titles👍
