I had one question which is: when we're using mirrors to reflect, that's light reflecting from denser as well. Shouldn't there be a phase change there as well? Or is it because the light is reflecting back as 180 degrees?

@@ThePhysicsFamily when we're using M1 M2 mirror to reflect back the rays for the second step of the procedure, the rays are reflecting from denser medium (which is the mirror here) as well. Couldn't there be a possibility that the light rays have another phase change by pi over here too? Or will they not have any phase change for case like reflecting back in the opposite direction as 180 degree?

Actually,what happens is that,when light falls on denser medium and gets reflected in a rarer medium then the phase change occurs. But,the in second step (as you mentioned in your question ) Light is falling on a denser medium and gets reflected back to denser medium so there is no phase shift (or change) in light rays.

Hope you will get your answer .

@@ThePhysicsFamily I didn't quite get the last paragraph of explanation. Light was traveling through air and was incident on mirror, then reflected back to air. I wondered if there could be a phase change over here or was there any underlying case for no phase change here?
@ThePhysicsFamily3 жыл бұрын
See, There is a mirror M2 ok, Now, light fall on it gets reflected back and hits the normal where it is divided into two parts one is refracted out into rarer medium and second on gets reflected in denser medium,there is no phase change.
