This is the first time the Richards family siblings and cousins have heard what happened to each other when they were stolen from their families and taken by boat to Adelaide. Some have never talked about their painful experiences. The siblings and cousins are part of the Stolen Generation. They all returned home to Port Lincoln, on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula, one by one as they reached adulthood, but their lives had changed forever. They struggled to reconnect after their family bonds were broken … the effects have rippled through the lives of their children and now their grandchildren. It is a harrowing story of a family torn apart and their steps to reconnect and celebrate their culture and past.

Thank you for sharing your story. I could never imagine the pain you feel but see that it has been a pain you have carried your whole lives. The past and treatment of the Aboriginal people has no sensible answer other than the fact that people came with their own ideas of what they thought would be better for you but were wrong. No amount of apologies, compensation or government policies could ever replace what you have lost and it is a pain that is hard to heal because the memories are so raw and the hurt so deep. Australians today are not those people who hurt you and hopefully you don't have us all in one basket because many see how you are just stuck with no way out. I travel sometimes into the remote desert places and sometimes sit alone imagining how beautiful and peaceful Aboriginal life once was as you lived at one with your surroundings having a simple fulfilled life. We are all human and go through life and so far in my journey have found that God's love for me has been my comfort in the things I carry inside and hope in your own way that you find that same love. If I could give you a hug through the internet then know that I did. Thank you again for being so open and vulnerable to tells us your story and the hurt you have. Love to you all and hope my small recognition to you helps in some way.

You mention "god"??!! What audacity. It was the Christians who were instrumental in the participation of attempting to destroy Aboriginal culture. You are so arrogant to think your god is somehow more important than Aboriginal religion and culture. Christian missions were a key element in the Stolen Generations, genocide, and the attempts at assimilation. You have no idea.

Thinking of all of you, love to you and the families that have been through this nightmare, I am proud to come from a mixed heritage family and simply can't imagine my boys of 6 and 2 years being taken away like that, tears are rolling down my face right now. I hope you find some peace. People need to know about this I did not know until now. Peace, respect and love to you and yours, thrive and enjoy your lives, you deserve it!

My grandmother never found out where she was stolen from, i was stolen 2 generations later "for my safety" the generational trauma is still having an adverse affect on descendants today, im sure my children will be negatively effected by trauma i had endured also.

How is it that in 2021, our national broadcaster still can't get something as basic as stereo audio mix right?

It should never have been ,and i am sorry deeply there is nothing i can say to take those experiences away .It gives me a chill to know it happened .Typical child abduction an order from Australian so called Authorities to take children away and give the parents the finger .
